Application process taking forever!
So, I applied for a job at the local jail about 2 months ago. 2 days later they called me for an interview to be held a week later. Interview and test lasted about 45 min. I was told I would be called the following week. 3 weeks later they called and asked me to come in for a polygraph. I did and passed it!! Boy was that nerve racking! Then they call 2 days later and ask me to come back on Monday to" discuss the position further" Has everyone else gone through such a long process?

Field Day "Drama"
Our field day was today. The PTA requested donations for water for the snack bar, then kids had to buy water. There was NO free water. So many kids didn't bring money so they didn't get any water. Re-cap, 300 kids running, hoping, jumping in 80 degree weather with no water. Thank GOD the ambulance was there for the kids to sit in and cool off :bowingpur

Would you work in your child's schoo?
I work in the school that 2 of my children attend. I think it's great :loveya: I get to check in on them occasionally, they cant fake sick and it keeps them in-line. The best part is that they are still younge enough that it's cool to hug and kiss mom. So as I'm walking thorough the hallway I can hear them proudly talking about their mom being the school nurse. I get the occasional excited declaration, that's my mom, that's my mom, followed by a big hug and kiss. It's awesome

THANK YOU
I'm not a hospine nurse, actually a school nurse, however my father was terminally ill last year and one year ago today we engaged hospice. He only lived a week. 20 years with hep. c , 1 liver transplant, and finally hepatic/renal failure and he had a bleed. We spent one week at home with my father, which was his dying wish, to be at home with his family. Our hospice nurse was Amber, and she was a miracle to us. We could not have done it without her and the nurses that called too. I just wanted to tell you all that what you do is amazing :heartbeat You are all angels who help not only the patient, but the family as well. I can't imagine what the process would have been like without nurses like you. So. THANK YOU, for being the angels you are. :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

I am the nurse...
My favorite is when they come in asking for a change of clothes or clean socks....then get really ***** because I don't have those things. Sometimes I think the teachers think that there's a magic fairy that delivers all odds and ends to the nurses office. :angryfire

Teachers and Ice
This year I took 50 bucks out of my budget and bought a small ice maker. I add water every morning and it maked a days worth of ice in about 20 minutes. Once it gets warm out and we have more playground injuries, I go through 2 cycles. Definatly worth the fifty bucks. HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE.....HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO AL OUR MOMS P.S. The shift key on my keyboard is broken so I cant use my exclimation,, or any other sign. It's been that kind of week.

Manipulative Parent
You have a doctors note saying the child cannot go outside. You can always say that is is not within your authority to override a medical decision. In any other situation you have to follow doctors orders right? I hate parents that do stuff like this....Stand your ground. Your right!!!!!

Fifth Disease ?
I'm in Virginia and had a student with Fifth's disesde last week. I checked the Virginia communicable refference chart put out by the dept. of health. It said no exclusion was required. Check with your state to see if they put out something like that. It always comes in handy when a child has to be excluded and the parents are upset. "Well sorry Mr/Mrs.....but the state of Virginia says Johnny has to stay out of school for X number of days."

Help--I am new at this
We have a school resourse officer, a local police officer, who we send to the house to knock on the door. Having a police car pull up in front of a house to tell a parent their child is sick and the school has no working numbers...that usually gets their attention.

Budget cuts=No school nurse?????
The first thing I learned in nursing school was...IT YOU DON'T WRITE IT...IT NEVER HAPPENED..I write everything.Keep track of everything. I think that will be a great help to me. I was also looking for statistics and such.

Budget cuts=No school nurse?????
I live in a small town in Virginia and am currently the school nurse for k-12 for about 600 students. The school boars has decided to cut my job next year because of budget cuts. I have decided that they have no idea what they're doing and I want to inform them. In one week I had a complete fracture of a kindergarten student, a 5th grader with acute appendicitis, who the secretary told her to suck it up and go back to class....oh yeah she was transferred by ambulance from one hospital to childrens hospital in D.C. where she spent 3 days. I could go on and on, but you understand what I'm saying. I need help!!!! I want to provide statistics, case studies anything you can think of to show the benefit of having a school nurse. Any Ideas????

Teachers with Pink Eye?
In my school the principal leaves it up to my discretion. I feel as though teachers know how to keep it from spreading. I always talk to the teacher and if they want to stay. Great!! If they want to go because it's bothersome then that's great too...

Do you ever just want to give up...
This is exactly what I was talking about yesterday...sorry I missed this post. My principal is going to talk to the teachers. What I have decided is this...Between having 3 kids and being a school nurse for a few years I have a pretty good BS meter! I'm going to continue to trust my medical judgement and my BS meter....Good Luck to all of us!!!
