I managed to get put on call 4 days on this rotation, so when my next scheduled day comes around I will have had 13 days off straight.
What other field can you work in where you get random days off? I love it!!! I work swing so I plan my work days accordingly and get all my "chores" done early in the day. When that magical little phone call comes in at 1:30 pm and I hear the words "on call"...woop woop! Its like someone just handed me 8 hours of free time.:yeah:Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my job. I just love getting to stay home a liiiitttle bit more.
Does anyone else get this excited?

Nope. I need every hour I can get. I hate being staffed down

I don't mind being called off. I seldom do, so when it happens it is not the end of the world and I know I will be able to make my hours up later down the road. Besides, get to enjoy my time w/family
And to be fair, my husband changed careers and got a job that supports us without my income. After 4 years of being the full time working breadwinner I think I enjoy my 'home time' a little more than the average.
We are closing on our first home on December 23rd though. I might change my tune then. I doubt it though

Me! Me!! I get that excited. I'm fortunate in that I have the option of NOT using PTO when I stay home on-call, so I take advantage of it whenever I can. I LOVE getting that phone call. Unfortunately our census has been REALLY high lately so it's been quite some time since I've gotten that call

I always thought an unscheduled day off was a gift.

I don't like being put on call very often, but I still get that giddy snow day feeling when it happens. :)

There is another name for this- It's called being "laid off". If I had enough $ to take frequent days off for no reason, I'd retire and work PRN for a little extra cash now and then.

Staffing has gotten in the habit of offering to put me on call first because they know how much I love it (unless they actually call me in).

I used to get excited, but our unit is very, very small and we have been cancelled to the point of having no PTO left this summer and fall, so now I don't. However, in the future I think I will again.
