Is a third..or a fourth interview REALLY warranted? I am starting to get a complex that I couldn't land it after the second. Are any others seeing this. I do feel blessed to at LEAST feel worthy of the interviews......I just never seen anything like it. Maybe they are stringing me along until someone better comes along...maybe I am just paranoid. Somethings gotta give.. I have less desirable interviews pending. But , I needed work yesterday!

I couldnt agree with you more! For 2 new grad programs I am on interview 4! It is really starting to be a full time job just going to interviews. I think my interview skills have improved, but well, I'd really just like to settle into a new job. The interviews are wreaking havoc on my current job, which is overnights and the interviews are during the day.

maybe it's between you and one other person. maybe they think you have other interviews and are dragging it out to see if you will take a job somewhere else or wait it out because you want to go with THEM and not the first job offer. it's hard to say, but consider it a good thing - i'm sure they aren't doing it to kill time.

I've never heard of 3rd and 4th interviews, heck I'd be happy to just get ONE interview right now. Be glad you seem to still be in the running :-)

I agree! I have been though some pretty strange interview processes lately as well!
Job Interview #1 - Sent resume. Was given ap to fill out at interview. Was interviewed and never called again. Got short email saying I wasn't chosen.
Job Interview #2 - Filled out online ap. Was called by recruiter the next day to do a short phone interview. Was sent skills check-off sheet, which I filled out and sent back. Was called back by recruiter to schedule another phone interview with her. After next phone interview, was scheduled for an in-person interview with the managers. Went to interview. Was asked to come shadow on the job for half-day. Now I am supposed to call them back to let them know if I am still interested so we can do more screening. I am! But what a lot of steps! And I'm not even hired yet!
Interview #3 - Sent in ap. Two months later heard back from organization, wanting to know if I could come in.

Yes I too am in the same boat. Just had my second interview and just started researching job options other than hospitals in my area. I had the strangest interview just yesterday. The first thing the interviewer said was that I'm very young and I might cry. The rest of the interview I couldn't get a word in edgewise- she was talking about how nursing has changed so much and that it's important to take constructive criticism. I must say I was confused by the lack of questions and I feel if I don't get the job it isn't anything I could've said wrong! haha.

I had five interviews and no job yet. One at a clinic was the strangest thing ever. The interviewer spent the very painful interview boasting about how many clinics he owned and how many he planned to buy since he is a "very smart guy who makes a lot of money". "I make a lot of money!", "I make a lot of money!". What??
He acted like he was really happy and fidgeted a lot. He got up and sat down and ranted a bit about me not being able to convince why I wanted to work for him. It was so wired!!!
Maybe he was compensating, but at an interview?

The 2nd interview and sometimes 3rd is happening more and more even to seasoned nurses. I don't understand it and I think it actually increases costs (at least man power hours) and can also backfire on the potential employer because the prospective employee gets frustrated and like some have mentioned, begin to question themselves. This is actually another reason I have decided to stay where I'm at for awhile - I just don't want to get up, get dressed, answer the same questions, meet with someone I'm not going to work with (ever!) then wait...

I know how you feel UpinawayRN! I have had to go for 2 interviews sometimes, even when the initial agency has interviewed me. I went for 2 interviews once, with different people, then they wanted me to go for a 3rd because they 'couldn't make up their mind.' I told them they needed to start making up their minds, fast, because they did not realise the time, effort, travelling, paying for parking and stress they were putting me under. I refused to go for a 3rd interview, and I didn't get the job. If a manager can't make up their mind after one interview, they don't know how to read OR manage people in my opinion.
Nursing interviews have just got ridiculously complicated and put people under so much stress, of course they are going to be more nervous.
I felt like saying to some of these people: what else do you want from me, a litre of blood and a pound of flesh!

I agree with everyone so far. This is the weirdest process I have ever gone through. Two interviews so far. The first was with an actual nurse manager who was looking to fill a spot immediately. We got along so well, went to same nursing school. When I told her I needed a few weeks before I began to tend to a family obligation, her expression changed and she didn't have much else to say except that she may call me in a few months if anything else opened. That was 4 months ago. My most recent was with a company where I really want to work and we talked for hours, literally. She was eventually searching through her sheet to find more random questions to ask. At the end, instead of offering me the position, she said I would have to wait 2 months to hear anything! Like all of you I thought it went well enough... Jury is still out on that one. But I am starting to doubt myself, etc... I quit my last job where I was in a top position working with the CEO to spend thousands of $$$ on nursing school and I graduated in May 10, still no job. Boy this sucks....

Sounds like cocaine! Elated... Fidgety..... Slightly paranoid!
:confused:A lightbulb went on as to why there are so many interviews, as nursing has changed so much over the years. It is not about your skill-set, in so much as "can we brainwash you to corporate mentality and work out the minor skill stuff later?" Ahh..."this is a behavioral interview, so you already brought the answers with you".............huh? All I can think of is "anything you say or do, can be used in a court of recruiters against you" Thank you Press Gainey, and, the word magnet, has a whole 'nother meaning...
