How long did you study for the CPNE?

I'll be following this post, Natnat... even though I've only completed one Nursing Exam, I'm NOT taking the CPNE lightly!! I'm already looking ahead, too... you are a LOT closer than I am... ?

I am hoping to have a CPNE date by the end of the year, which will give me about 4 months to study. Depending on my work schedule, I will be able to put in 2-8 hours per day. That is a big difference, but I commute to work 12 hr nights.. so those days I will not be doing much... I homeschool two boys other days, but then some days I am off and the boys will be with their dad. I am not counting on any spare time, to say the least. :)

I am a bad example but here goes. I was CPNE eligible since 2010. I read the guide book and became totally confused and did nothing out of fear. Fast forward - my 7 years from Excelsior were fast approaching. Sept 2011 I went to the Atlanta workshop for three days. I began studying much more purposeful. I still waited six more months to apply for a date. Finally received a date for Sept 2012 in Albany. Last summer I spent most of my free time working on labs and mnemonics for the areas of care, also care plans. Say 4 months of intense study, maybe 2 hrs a day. At the Atlanta workshop we were given a list of patient care scenarios. When I could write 2 care plans and do my grid in less than 10 min, I knew I was ready. Passed CPNE Sept 13 at Albany Medical Center, NCLEX Jan 3 2013!

It is doable but I would NOT test until you felt ready. Hope this helps.

3 8-hour shifts with my trainer over a 3-week period. 4-hours a day on off days working on care plans and learning mnemonics, calculating drip rates, etc... At night, when I went to bed, I replayed over and over in mind EXACTLY what I was ging to say to the patient from the time I entered the room with the introductions, until I finished with the first 15-minute checks. I did that until I fell asleep. Just to make sure that I didn't fail the hand washing component, I always jelled as I entered the room, after knocking first and this was my statement: good morning Mr./Miss -----, I'm Lynda and this is my instructor, Miss -----, and we're going to be taking care of you for a little while today. After I wash my hands, I will do a little more formal introduction to check your armband. But for now, can you tell me your name? (By that time, I'm already at the sink washing.) I replayed that scenario in my mind up until the night that I actually had to say it.

6 months (thanks to spac incompetency) though I would have taken at least 4. most of the day, most days, including at work (mnemonics) and labs twice a day at home (5 days per week). labs twice near the end with a study buddy. used sheri's online deal.

6 weeks, 1-4 hours a day

OMG great I thought it HAD to be for months on end! uM. would you mind telling me if you passed your first go around? ?

Yes I did!!!! My trainer was once a CPNE evaluator until she retired. !

Yep! Sure did. About 6 weeks ago.

The workshop in Atlanta is the place to go, would not have done it without it even tho I had been an LPN for 18 years. worth every penny! I also set up a lab on my house and practiced every day. prob an hour a day for 6 wks. Bought the video which was very helpful. Good luck to you!!!!

I studied for about 3 months, practiced every day in my at home lab, went to Sheri Taylor's seminar in Atlanta, passed the first time, no repeats.
