Well I am pre nursing student to be admitted this fall. I am in my precal II class today and we have a pop quiz. the girl next to me tells me she doesnt have her calculator. Me being the nice guy I am offered to share mine. Problem is the quiz is 5 minutes and she took it 3:30 of the quiz and left me with a 1:30 to do the problem. ( had it set up but realized I made a mistake and didnt have enough time to correct it) So needless to say it was a 2 part quiz and I only got credit for 1 part. (50 %) I know its just a quiz but every point counts.
To top it off she didnt even say "Thank you"
Moral: be selfish when it comes to your education. Sometimes being nice bites you in the butt

I don't have a problem sharing pencils, paper, etc. I would even share a calculator - after I was done with it. Sorry you got screwed helping someone else. I don't get people that take from others and are not thankful.

It seems every time something similar has happened to me, I promise myself not to be so willing to help, and then I turn right around and do it again. Then something like this happens to me again. Oh, well.

hey if you are taking a math class and you forget a calculator it is like leaving your house and forget to put on clothes!
nah,... you should have one calculator that stays in your bag all times, on a pocket, just to reasure you have it in case you have an exam!!!!
have a spare one to use on a daily basis! theye are only 1 dollar!

I dont think there is anything wrong with doing nice things for others, but it needs to come after you do for yourself. Your education is paramount and anything else has to come secondary as far as the niceties of helping other students.
Take care of yourself and then help others if you have time/resources left. Personally, there's no way I would let someone else use my tools for a quiz that only lasted 5 minutes, let alone let them do it before I used it. Thats not selfish, just self preservation.

Just like in those safety demos for the O2 mask in airplanes, put the mask on first before helping others.

I wouldn't loan a calculator to anyone during a class, there are ways of passing answers to multiple choice questions on it; and bam! you're kicked out for cheating.
Not that I ever did that in HS. uh-huh.
But if my students were passing things back and forth in class during a quiz, huge red flags would be shooting up. Fortunately, all the quizzes I'm giving are take home and open book :)

You're right. This is your education and you have to take care of yourself first before you can help anyone else.

You NEVER share a calc. The instructor probably thought you were sharing the answer left on the calculator screen. In NS, we aren't even allowed to use our own calc. due to that very reason, information being programed into the calc. Atleast you learned your lesson.
Yeah I was also worried about the being mistaken for cheating too. Luckily it didnt happen this time. Anyone have study partners that drag you down?(arent up to speed and you basically have to TEACH them instead of studying for yourself? I have one right now who is definately a slacker and shes bringing me down while I bring her up. If so what did you do about it.
