I have started paperwork - at last, got appointment for fingerprints tomorrow, am about to send request for transcript off (why soo many forms?) So, my next question is.. when I (hopefully) get ATT and (hopefully) pass Nclex exam- what then - I realise I'm jumping the gun a tad but I am hoping to get this done ASAP, when my mum when she went through an agency, who did everything for her really so she doesn't really remember the various stages. Do I apply direct to hospitals for a job? Do I have to apply for Visa first??

you can start applying direct to hospitals now but they won't be able to do anything until you pass NCLEX. Your employer has to file for the visa you can't. Would also recommend once passed NCLEX file for visa screen as that will take approx 3-4 months to come through which you will need for your interview. Once lawyers file for I140 you then wait for approval then your file goes to NVC, they process the paperwork once fee is paid and send everything to the US embassy in London and they will then inform you of a interview date and medical

just waiting to hear from lawyer to whether NVC fee has come through, they are busy splitting up and moving so hoping for not too long a delay

You think it is a minefield now, wait until you start the process and fill all the paperwork out

There was a CA hospital that just recently advertised for direct hire places for UK nurses. that would be a good route because they often deal with all the immigration paperwork etc for you.

However, I think you need to get that dear beast the N-CLEX out the way first! Vermont is pretty fast for getting your ATT but I suggest you get a review book - like Saunders Comprehensive & go through that first. Then attend the Kaplan live course to hone your skills. Once you're fairly sure you know the stuff then apply to Vermont for the ATT. It can be transferred at a later date (& cost of course).

You should see if a direct hire will help you through all that too but I'm fairly sure in most cases they don't.

Someone will come along with an answer to that in due course, no doubt.

I am more or less direct hire, just use the hospital recruiter and she has managed to sort eveything out for me like endorsement and help with chasing CGFNS

Hi, Have posted all papers to CA BON and request for transcrpit stuff - so, now I wait!!! I know it could be months - but still very excited!

Just found out tho' that my job may not actually exist in the US - Diabetes Research Nurse - oh, well. I wonder if I should post a new thread asking if anybody is doing clinical trials in the US, or Diabetes nursing? Hmm

Hi, thank you to whom ever moved this over to research thread - bit dissappointed to learn that research nurses seemingly get paid less than staff nurses, I suppose it's a matter of need - oh well
