You got re-certified in ACLS and billed both hospitals for the course? Is that right?

If that's so, then yeah, I think that's a little unfair. After all, you only paid for the course once, right? But were being reimbursed by both hospitals?

But then, how did the one hospital find out that you billed the other hospital for the same class?

Or did you take the class twice?

Apologize and ask both facilities to remove the pay from your next check. You'll lose some money and gain some good will.

i work at several different hospital, non are affliated but two have requirements that i take acls/cpr. i was fulfilling a job requirement. I had no idea since i'm not staff that if a hospital required this education that i wasn't allowed to bill them for meeting my job requirement.

pardon me for sounding harsh, but how could you even begin to think it was right to bill two employers for the same job?? acls may be required by both, but since it is a physical impossibility to take time off from two facilities to take one course.....the thought being that if you weren't taking the course that day you would be working at one or the other......you cannot bill both for the time.

if i were in your shoes i would be groveling to the nm right now, saying, "i wasn't trying to falsify anything, i just wasn't thinking." you can bet that nm may well have said something to the other one, so i also think it would be a good idea to give the money back to both and chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned.

i'm scared i'm going to lose my job, i didn't realize i was doing anything wrong, it's a job requirement.

Like Tazzi, I'm not trying to be harsh, I'm just trying to figure out why someone should show you any leniency regarding double billing. Yes, we know that it was a job requirement, but in essence, it looks like you were trying to get payment from someone (one of your employers) for taking the class. That's not the way it works. You pay them for classes - for their time, expertise, materials, everything included in the class.

I really just want to get this straight in my mind, why is it OK to bill two hospitals for taking the same required class?

And Tweety summed it up pretty well, too. I'm just trying to get what could be the underlying reason why it may be OK to double bill.

I'd pay it back ASAP.

If both are willing to pay for the course, then in the future you could negotiate in advance that each one picks up half.

I would apologize profusely to both places, pay each one back in full, and be extremely careful from here on out. If not, you may find it difficult to find work.

How was the documentation falsified?

It's just tacky. Considering that you're a per diem nurse at these places, you will be lucky to keep your job.

i'm a per diem nurse and work at several hospitals. two of the hospitals require acls.

If more of the hospitals that you work for had required ACLS, were you going to charge them too?
