Gifts for preceptor

Does your preceptor have any obvious friends on the unit? You can always ask them what the preceptor might like. (This is what I did.) If they bring in coffee a lot, you might get a small giftcard to Starbucks. Nice pens are always an idea -- what nurse doesn't go through pens? Yes, the smelly lotion idea is a bit of a non-brainer with us lady folks. Bath stuff, too, but that might also look a bit weird coming from a guy.

I think the most important part is the thank you note that you write, honestly. The gift becomes more of a token effort. Honestly, you might just write your preceptor a really good thank you card and - if you want a gift - bring in bagels for the unit on your last day or something like that.

agree with above post. It is the thought that counts and a card with your own comments is priceless

totally agree with the first post, i still have some of my thank you handwriting letters from past preceptees that i treasure, along with a few gifts that were given to me. having said that you couldn't imagine how much it means to us preceptors a letter writing with your own penmanship letting us know that our efforts weren't overlooked. wishing you the best in all of your future endeavors...aloha~

having received these from students, i promise she'll treasure a handwritten note saying why you value the educational experience she made the trouble to give you, especially if you mention specifics. be sure to cc her boss. and you could add a small token decorative thingie that could hang in her locker, her office, her bathroom mirror, her christmas tree, or the like, that will catch her eye every now and then and make her remember. :hrnsmlys:

Agree with comments suggesting handwritten note. Those things mean a lot, and I take mine out when I bad days to remind me that I do a good job! Something tells me you were a very good student, too.

I wrote a handwritten thank you along with a gift from her favorite store (which I worked at). She also wrote me a really awesome Congrats/Graduation card - I still have it today!

One thing I wish I would have done is also get a handwritten thank you card for the nurse manager / assistant nurse manager. They watched you very close as well, and it will maybe help in getting a job there.
