So I'm thinking of getting a nice gift for the ER staff in my hospital as a thanks because they have mentored me. What would you guys recommend? I was thinking a box of chocolates perhaps, but that's quite mundane. Suggestions needed!

Go to the borders and buy them a calendar for nurses,it is of a square shape in the pink box,it has a lot of funny nursing jokes, quotes and etc..I got it for Christmas and I love it!

We always groan when we get sent chocolates, not that we don't like them but our hips don't need them! Fruit is good and we have a special display spot for heartfelt notes and cards.

We always appreciate good chocolate or a fruit basket or a cheese and cracker tray or some nice coffee and tea, bottle of wine ... oh, scratch that last one.

In the past I have given my clinical preceptors a gift of an edible arraignments basket (its cut up fruit that is designed like a floral basket) and since they are pretty large its enough for everyone to try some and you can get a few pieces (or the whole basket) of fruit covered with chocolate which is cool too. I also bought a box set of pens that are made to look like needles and sometimes give those out along with the edible arrangement. Nurses or other staff are never paid extra for training and so its the little gestures that really mean a lot.

Fruit and candy are nice, but if you really want to make an impression, write a formal letter to the CEO, naming each person who helped you, and thanking the hospital for the opportunity to learn there. Send copies to your mentors and thier manager as well. Nothing like having things in writing in your personnel file when evaluation time comes due.
