I got my flu shot a few weeks ago. I broke out in hives a few hours later, they went away and then returned that evening. Was it the flu shot or something in the vaccine? Should I be nervouse about gettting vacines in the future or just the flu vaccine? I have never had this type of reaction, but in the last 5 years I have had way too many shots (hep b series, hep a series, several MMR, several tetnus, flu shot each year, PPD each year) Do you think it is the amount of vaccines I have got or just the flu shot?

My daughter got a flu shot for the first time this year. Just a reminder to parents if it is your childs first time getting the flu shot they need it in a two part series a month apart.

Hope everyone stays healthy this year!

I considered it fool-hardy NOT to get the shot. SO yes, I did when the employee health nurse was giving them. They were free, after all.:D

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout! FREE, so got my shot too! :D

Some people are allergic to thimerosol: It's a mercury-containing preservative used in vaccines to prevent bacterial contamination.

And yes, I got my flu shot! Had a sore arm for a few days, and that was all. :D

I had no idea the numbers were that high!

Q. How many people die of the flu each year in the U.S.?

A. Influenza leads to an average of about 36,000 deaths and 114,000 hospitalizations a year in the U.S.

had mine........first time ever! no reaction so I'm happy! its a nasty strain this year.....we've had children die which isnt funny but so far not epidemic yet!!

Karen

I got mine! Free, I might add. I have gotten my for the last three years, and while I used to get a nasty cold/flu once a year, I have not been that sick since I started getting the flu shot. As tweety said, I try to keep pretty healthy too, you know, for good measure :) It does give me a sore arm for a couple of days and I think that our employee health nurse leaves the biggest bruises possible when she gives any type of injection (it's actually a standing joke at the hospital...)

Our Occupational Health Nurse gives them out or else I get it from my family doctor. I felt kind of crappy after getting it, but had a nap and felt much better.

Got my free one at the hospital weeks ago.

So far so good! :p

Got mine back in October, but I've been sick as a dog for the last 2 weeks anyway. I've heard reports on the news that the strain that is getting so bad was not included in this year's shot.

Rats!

I got mine a month ago. Yeah I heard about that on the news, too. I wish you a speedy recovery. Isn't it nice to be able to talk to sick people without fear of getting sick. God bless the internet!

I am not getting any shot of any kind!! I HATE needles!! Call me a pathetic creature of a nurse, but I have zero pain tolerence with needles. I havent had a blood draw or shot since about 2 years ago when the lab gal took my blood and it left my inner elbow completly black for over a week- that had never happened before- I am no phlebotomist, but my guess is she didnt do something right for me to bruise like that, it was just nasty!!
