FCCJ Fall '09???

Anyone else planning on applying to FCCJ's nursing program for Fall '09? I figured we might as well start a "support group" thread of sorts for those of us who are. Never too early to start, right?

Im not sure how I did on the NAT. I have my scores but not sure where I fall as an average.

Hey Im applying for fall of 09 also!!! I have a total of 203 points. It is crazy how hard it is to get into any nursing program anymore. I applied at UNF and the GPA just for interviews was a 3.6!!!

Hi you guyz I am also applying for the nursing program for the Fall! I haven't taken the NAT yet but plan to take it within the next week. i figured if I make a 107 on the test I will have 200 points minus my microbiology since I am taking that this summer. I hope I get in on the first try I noticed that each semester the cut off points is around 187-193 so with my 200 points hopefully I get in. I am so excited and I wish each of you the best of luck!!!!:yeah:

Good luck on the NAT it is not that bad. They only use 3 parts of the test to get your score so you just have to do good on those 3 parts lol. good luck!!!!

I just finished Micro and I tallied my points and I have 205! I should be sbmitting my app in the next few weeks. Good luck to everyone!!

Hi all! I will be starting May 4th for the summer 09 program. At the orientation, one fellow student showed her NAT scores and they were all in the "average/high average" range, so it is possible. I applied with 219, so I had no problems getting in....but I do know there were a couple of students who were 'late' acceptees when some students decided not to accept their slot.

Things to be aware of.....

The 1st semester books are PRICEY! Just under $1K (w/o tax computed in). At orientation they had the student nurses assn passing out uniforms for "whatever you can afford". Take an oppty to get a free/reduced price uniform when you can - especially those on a seriously tight budget. Also, they randomly passed out a large number of Skills Kits at orientation ($89), so I would wait until after orientation to make that purchase.

The other things you will need to pay for:

FCCJ Poloshirt - $14

Khaki pant - $21 - $25.50

Lab coat - $21

name pin - $7

shoes - $59.00

fingerprinting - $53.25

background check - $38.00

drug screen - $26.00

Good Luck!

Hi everyone! My name is Amber and I just discovered this site by googling FCCJ nursing program! I am glad Ifound it because i wanted more info abouthte program. I am also applying for Fall 2009. I havent taken the NAT yet but called to sign up for it within the next few days or weeks. what book is it that you can buy for around 20 dollars to study? all i saw at the bookstore was a book for the NCLEX. Also I was wondering if anyone already in the program could explain alittle about the program like how many times a week you drive to North campus, have clinicals and if it is even possible to work maybe part-time somewhere while in the program! Thanks, Amber

hey everyone! i think ive posted on here before. i'm applying for the fall '09 program, and i had a few questions for you guys.

first of all, does anyone know how long the actual nursing PROGRAM is? on the application is says something about '4 terms' does that mean for semesters, meaning two more years?! if so, i just dont get it, an associates is a two year degree, meaning two years including your prereqs, right??

anyway, another question i had for you guys is if you care to share how many points you have so far? I will be taking the NAT tmrw, and ill let you know mine then. I'm just trying to get a ballpark to see if my score is good enough or not.

Thanks, and i wish everyone the best of luck getting in!

what did you study for the NAT tomorrow? i am signing up to take it really soon but i definately need to study!

My friend gave me a book called "PSB Health Occupation Exam Secrets" but honestly, it doesnt seem like it's going to be much help. I've heard you can get a study book in the FCCJ bookstores, but I had a hard time myself finding something to study from. :uhoh3:

Good luck on the test! I'm so nervous about taking it tmrw.

The nursing program is 4 semesters (16 months) so if you start Fall 2009 you will graduate at the end of Dec 2010.

Good luck on your NAT tests....

I went to Books-A-Million and got the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exam book. It was not the one this school recommends, but was a fairly good resource. When I took a look at the science section, I knew I would have to wait until after I did the pre-reqs before taking the test. I hadn't had any bio course since JHS (in the mid 1970s) and my HS and college were all about Chemistry and Physics. That being said.....I scored in the 98th percentile for science after taking the pre-reqs.

Moecato, that is one of the bummers of nursing program! A '2 yr degree' takes 3....a 4 yr degree takes 5! My mom graduated from the Long Island Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 and back then they just called it "3 yr nursing school". No AS or BS degrees were given. When my sister graduated in 1983, it took 5 yrs at UNT to get a BSN.
