Failing NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone,

I just failed my NCLEX and having a really hard time with it. I don't want to retake it because I don't ever want to have to go through this again. Do you know if there is anything else I can do with just my BSN or do I have to go for a whole new career?

Sorry to hear that.

Now you need to take a deep breath and pull your self up by your boot straps. Hit those books or find a study group of some kind and try it again. It amazes me that anyone could spend all that time and money and just give up that easily.

I agree with Nascar Nurse. Failing NCLEX once does not mean you give up. And no, there isn't anything you can do with just a BSN and no license. You need a license to practice nursing in all 50 states and Washington, DC. Some states allow you to practice as a "graduate nurse" with a BSN before taking/passing NCLEX but there are time limits on that and, since my state does not have the "graduate nurse" status, I have no idea what the restrictions are in the states that do have that status.

In most states with Graduate Nurse status, you can work as a nurse until you take the NCLEX. You are either then a nurse (passed) or you suddenly have issues because you can no longer be in GN status. She has already failed the NCLEX, so GN status is out.

Many folks have failed the NCLEX and gone on to become nurses. Don't give up!

Do not give up! It's okay to be a little depressed right now, that normal. Take a good content review and practice some questions. Good luck!

Oh no, ..okay iam sorry that you did not pass. i do understand the feeling, been there once...and iam determined to pass this monster exam. You have a BSN and you just want to throw in the trash..that's 4yrs plus of your life. ok enough of my preaching, i would give you a big hug if i was close by you ((((hugs)))) so here is my internet hug :). Take some time off...a few days and then dont stop studying, if you ever want someone to talk to...you can PM. we are all here to help one and another

My quick and dirty secret about the NCLEX is this: You must answer the questions within less than a minute. The quicker you move forward the better. It doesn't matter if you get questions wrong in the process. What matters is that your scores remain about 50 - 60% correct and you maintain this average going as fast as possible. The test will reward you with a right question you answered in 15 seconds but it will take points from you if you got the same question right but took 3 minutes to answer. Believe me...the NCLEX is like a nursing video game.

What the NCLEX is trying to test you is: how fast can you decide on a important situation you have little or no information, and how many of these you got right. (which is what you be doing in nursing one day)

Don't over think. Make a decision and move one. Get a rhythm going.

Formula for success without going crazy: Do 60 questions a day in 60 minutes. Check your scores. Above 60% correct YOU GOOD TO GO!

GOOD LUCK.

Pls don't just give up w/ one failure. Many others have gone through a lot more time before they pass. And I also can't think of anything you can do w/ your BSN without being a nurse. You should be! So, take some time off. And soon you feel more relaxed, you can get back on to studying. You can do this! Believe in yourself and pray pray pray.

stay focused! you can do this!

Oh no don't give up take a week to get yourself together an get back in the book. It took me 5 try before I finally pass the nclex . Remember to put God first in your life and your study and He will do the rest. Don't give up

I have failed twice and it's hard, yes I understand and agree... but what makes us all Nurses is that we dont give up at the first problem. Nursing is full of problems that we need to work through in order to get where we want. My first failure I felt sick and depressed. But I picked myself up and went at it again. 2nd failure just strengthened my determination to pass this test. Just took it for the 3rd time and awaiting results. And if i fail again? Well I'll just keep on trying untill I do pass it. Your not alone! You can do this! :nurse:
