Hello,
I need help! I took the test for LVN classes that start in Sept. in Voc. Tech in Piscataway, NJ. I can't believe that I so called failed this test. It was really easy, so I thought. I still can't believe they said I need to take some math/and or reading classes before I reapply. What do they base these test results on? I didn't have a 4.0 gpa in school but I sure wasn't a fool.
I want this nursing career so bad. But at the same time I am wondering if God is telling me this is not for me. I was working in corporate america in a big pharm. company. I always wanted to do nursing from when I started Piscataway Vo Tech in HS but classes are only available to adults, so I took medical office occupations.
I just don't know I love children and I wanted to be a Pediatric RN, or in some type of children's environment.
Can anyone out there help me? Do anyone know any hospitals in new jersey that hire people and pay for them to go to school. In return you have to stay with them for a certain amount of years.
Thank you!
God Bless

Can you take the test again? Most schools let you take the NET atleast twice to try and pass it. This time I would get the study guide at http://www.eriworld.com They are the makers of the test, so the study guide is exactly like the test.
Also, get a copy of your scores. That way you can see for yourself just how you did.
If you want a career in nursing bad enough, remember this quote. "You only see the obstacles when you have stopped focusing on your goal". With that being said, get up and brush yourself off. You can do it! Get fully prepared and take it again.
Good luck!

If nursing is what you really want, don't you give up!
Try taking it again like the last person who posted suggested. And if that is not an option. Take the extra class and go again!
Just because you didn't pass this test the first time doesn't mean you were not cut out for nursing!:innerconf
Just think of all the people dieting out there. If they didn't lose all their weight on their first try, wouldn't you encourage them to learn from that and keep trying... and tell them to never give up?
Take that analogy anywhere in your life...If you want it GO FOR IT!
Good luck and keep us posted!:typing

I also received the same letter. I thought I was prepared but when they passed out the first math portion with no multiple choice, (not part of the TABE) I knew I might not pass. Luckily this showed me my weak points so when I took the TEAS exam for the Monmouth County Vo-Tech LPN program, I was ready and I passed. I was glad as I live in Monmouth County and it is a much easier commute. Whatever you do dont just give up. Go and get yourself a TABE study guide and reapply. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Best of luck to you.
I want to really thank everyone for the good advice. I decided not to give up! I am going to study alot harder and pass the test. I have to do it for all the little angels out there. Nursing is my calling, I know it is I feel it deep in my heart. Just pray for me and I will make it through.
God Bless!

Hi,
Do not let this test get the best of you. I believe you can pass the NET. Being a great students is not going to get you pass the NET test. You have to practice taking test. Taking test is a skill that must be learn. I would recomend that you by the study guide before taking the test again.

Same exact thing happened to me but I was DETERMINED!!!! I analyzed my scores and took note of my weak areas. I seeked professional help and when I re took the test I had high scores...lol the receptionist couldnt believe it...she's said "you did absolutely wonderful." Very small percentage who get good scores without having to take remedial courses.
But you should make a mental note of everything that was on the test...and try to find things online that discuss that for the english part. Math- Make sure your practicing 3hrs a day- and have someone test you.

At the school I attended, they had a minimum passing number for each subject and you had to score above that to "pass". I can't remember what those numbers were though. I purchased the study guide to study the math (my weakest subject) and ended up getting very high scores in all the subjects. The study guide has all the same kind of math you will see on the exam. If this is your dream, don't give up - just prepare better for next time and you WILL pass if you really want it.

Love that quote! Those are words to live by when you set your goals.
Don't let failing the test get in the way of your dreams. Get the study guide and do a good review. Once you feel confident enough, go back and retest. I almost didn't make it into the LPN program. I was 2-3 points from failing the math portion, but I decided that if I did fail then I would definitely retest. Good Luck!

It's a horrible test and there's no easy way around it... Here's what I did before I took the test (and the math killed me cause we weren't permitted to use a calculator)..... Pray... deep breath before you start... focus on the question... don't read through it, look at the answers, and pick one... read it twice because sometimes you'll miss something the first time around... take your time on each question... there's no extra points for being the first one done. And if you don't know the answer, go through each one and see if it fits the question it is asking... usually you can eliminate two answers this way. When you're really, really stuck.... pick answer C. Most of the time, that's the correct answer. And most of the time, All of the Above is not a correct answer. Good luck! I have faith you can pass this test!

The first time I took the NET I got a 69 and I turned around and took it again a month later and got an 83. I think I scored a 69 the first time because I was soooo freakin' nervous! Don't give up, you can do it!
