Do nurses/students in clinicals have a change of scrubs with them? What would happen if you got body fluids on you? I have see post about getting poo on you during an enema or fluid on you when a pt water breaks. Just curious.

Well, i was never at a risk of getting amniotic fluid on me in clinical, since i wasn't close enough to the pt. to get that.
I did, however, get breast milk puke on me while burping a baby. The puke ran right off the towel and on my shirt.
I simply changed into hospital provided scrubs and put my nametag on.

I have thought about this as well....
My plan is to keep an extra set of scrubs in my truck as well as an extra stethoscope.
Although, it would be so much easier if the hospital/school would allow you to have a hospital issued set as Marie posted. :)

yep...body fluids and other nasties have gotten on my scrubs. Change into the hospital-provided ones and give the stained ones to the laundry to wash so I don't have to take them home dirty.
That idea I really like!!

Luckily I don't have to buy any uniforms myself. Everything is provided for by the hospital so if my uniform were to get dirty I would simply grab a new one(first clinical in one month)

In many hospitals you have to wear their scrubs in the L&D and OR areas.
Also - if you give your personal scrubs to any of the laundries in the hospitals in Dallas, you will never ever see them again.
My suggestion is to carry an extra set in your backpack, You can roll them up and stick them in a ziplock bag and squeeze all the air out so they dont take up much space.
Worst comes to worst, if you get something nasty on you, they will loan you a set to get home in but you will need to take yours home and wash them yourself if you want to keep them.
Leave it up to a Dallas gal to burst my bubble. I thought it sounded too good to be true.
Bahahahaha!!!! You wouldn't REALLY want your scrubs laundered at one of the local hospitals!
I bought one of those Maytage washing machines with the boiling hot water feature on it just for such occasions...
thanks for the replies! I will def be carrying extra scrubs when I start.
Don't forget extra 'underclothing'.
Good luck to you!!
Gauge14iv, should I bring my black light with me to test hospital sheets? EWWWWWE!
