Jan 6, 20179 yr Experts thank you!i just started so time will tell. But i have 9 years under my belt, plus I am getting my MSN-ed to teach, and hopefully this year I will have my first 1/3 marathon! LOLnow I see why dayshift nurses are the ones that do all the activities in the hospital such as committees and patcipate in events lolall I wanted to do was sleep on my days off and never cared for any of that stuff.in my research class I did a paper on night shift nurse parcipation in hospital activities and found is only 12% of nurses who work at night. I always wondered why there is no night activities for the night nurses.I am so excited for you. Nothing like just taking the plunge.I get not being able to do things while working nights. No matter how much sleep you get, it's not really good sleep and you're never not tired. At least, that's how I felt when I worked nights.Congratulations!

Jan 11, 20179 yr Author I can't wait to quit nursing altogether!LOL nursing is nursing. Definitely a hard job. You really have to love helping sick people. now i telehealth I help people but in a different way. I am still learning so I do have insecurities but who doesn't when they first start a new job?

I think many of them like the fact that there are less people-doctors, visitors, management around. That's one of the reasons that they choose night shift.
Jan 11, 20179 yr Yes I have a job lol I am working in telehealth. No more running around the hospitals hallways. Plus i am almost done with my MSN-ed.i wanted advice from telecommute nurses who work from home. But didn't get any lol. But I realized that everyone has their own story so I just gave it a chance. I am a creature of habit, so that's why this is exciting for me.Congrats. You have paid your dues with 9 years at the bedside. Took me longer to get out. I telecommute, but not in the telehealth role. What exactly, will you be responsible for?I CAN tell you, any work from home position is under a special microscope. Every decision you make is closely monitored .
Jan 11, 20179 yr Author True. I figured I would be micromanaged. I am, but as an employee for someone else you have to be. one day, I dream of being a business owner. If I had the money I totally would.

I think many of them like the fact that there are less people-doctors, visitors, management around. That's one of the reasons that they choose night shift. For me, I stayed 9 years at night because at first that was the only job I could find. Then, it became convenient that I could be around for my daughter. At night, we used to have managers when I started. 4 years into my career we stopped having managers .... and that's when things started going south. Believe it or not, i actually like having the managers around .... because they could see my work & how hard I worked for the patients. I actually like having doctors around instead of calling them at 2-4 am. I think of myself as a nice person with a positive attitude, and overall I am happy. There was one person there who accused me of sleeping, that I was lazy and didn't do anything at night etc. I know my job so most of the time she was ignored. Yet when I would tell the manager she would say "she doesn't say anything bad about you to me" or "I've never seen her act negative towards you or anyone else" .... of course because on the weekend when you are not there she doesn't behave. :-/I confronted her and I said look I heard from so and so that you said this and this and she would shrug her shoulders and walk away. So I learned that "it's not me, it's her" attitude. Anyways, i stayed in the same floor as her for 3 years. And the last 2 years I spent it in the staff pool team. So I worked all over the hospital, but mostly in NICU. I loved seeing new faces, loved seeing new types of patients, and it was a good new challenge. Since I started 2 years ago, in 2014.. i asked to do dayshidt. No openings bc I needed weekends. I had such a great time getting to work with different groups of nurses. But-- with night shift comes -- me staying up on my days off and having to get up at 7am to take my daughter to school, on the weekends on Saturdays if my daughter wants to get up at 8am and not sleep in... then I don't get sleep all day before I go into work. When I am hungry I had the attitude of "I need junk food because I work so hard" and "I need to recuperate to go to the gym"... and. Not go. From 118 lbs when I started ... and that's not even that skinny for a 5"1 woman, I am ballooned to 180lbs.i bought turbofire, got a spinning bike & a new job so 2017 will be a new year for me!! I started turbofire this week & I got spinning today. LOLSorry for the book but I type pretty fast :-)
I quit my hospital job of 9 years!
