Excelsior

I personally haven't but I plan to go in Jan 2011. I graduate from a LPN program in Aug 2010. I have worked with two RN's that have both done lpn to rn through excelsior and they both were very satisfied. However I also worked with a lpn that was also doing excelsior and she couldn't pass her clinical portion, but she admitts that she never studied enough. So in order to attend this school, you have to already be a nurse/lpn/rn?

you have to be paramedic, resp. therapist or have over 50 % of a previous nursing school experience. check out the website www.excelsior.edu for more detailed info. i was accepted due to prior nursing student. good luck!!!!!!!!

I'm currently in Excelsior's program.. There has been plusses and minuses about it. I am an LPN that graduated in 2002. I tried desperately to get into the online LPN to RN program through mccvlc.org and missed the pre req deadline by 1 week.. I was devistated, but didn't want to waste anymore time.

For me, self studying was challenging working a Mon-Fri job with busy weekends. I don't have kids, but have accepted the fact that I want to relax when I get home from work, let alone teach myself critical nursing elements. Fortunately, I work for a school and have summers off. I was taking a test every 3-4 weeks last summer until I failed one.. After that, my confidence was shaken and it's taken me one whole year to start testing again. Now I only have one more exam left, and then begin my preparation for the CPNE.

If I could do it all over, I was personally suck it up and wait to get into a program here in the Grand Rapids area. I have heard none of the hospitals will hire Excelsior grads and not to mention, we don't really have a nursing shortage in this area. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Also mostly LPN's transition to their RN through this program. Even if you recieved your lpn through a vocational school rather than a college, you can still get your ADN-RN through them...

Also I don't know of any places in that look at what school you went to, they look at your nursing license. Thjere are a few state nursing boards that are challenging recent excelsior grads, the two that I know of are california and georgia. Your best bet is to look under distance learning and look up excelsior

Good Luck with this place. I just finished my LPN program and this school came to ours. Its so freaking much. I also had my teacher go here to finish her masters and she didnt like it. She said even if you dont plan on attending your online classes every semt you still have to pay. Its basically like your paying to pass out of a class that is if u pass. They send you a huge binder of what to except on the exam you have how ever long u need then you go to a school or testing location to take that test. Then the next one. This is even how your RN classes will be. So u dont have an actual insructor in front of you u have one online and u can call one but still. And they said they have their clinicals in Ohio I belive for a wkend and if u pay an extra 900 .oo u have an 98% rate of passing. This extra money gives u a video and binder in what to except in your clinical wkend and if u dont pay the extra money you have like a 60% or even lower chance of passing I know its a low number. They came to our school three times they came to a classmates house even. Its a much of crap I think but hey if you want to pay 10 grand and just finish your RN and dont care that your degree will say its from Excelsior than go for it.

you are misinformed about excelsior college you should go to there website and do a little research. the cost is 240 for a 3 credit nursing exam, that is way less than the community college where i live...i think it is a great program for seasoned medical professionals...10 thousand is also cheaper than most universities...

just about all of this is incorrect....sounds like you have been approached by a publishing company not ec......the college network, rue are publishing companies that provide "binders" study material for the exams and the clinical weekend....there are hospitals all over the country that are used for the cpne not just ohio...there is no paying extra to get a better chance of passing you study and prepare then test..you can however take workshops to practice the information you will be tested on ....ec is alot cheaper than most community colleges i think in the end i payed something like 5k for my asn....however, get hooked up with a publishing company expect to pay 10k just for the study guides

Hi I just registered with excelsior, and I would LOVE for someone to explain to me how the fees work. I understand that I pay @ Pearson everytime I take an exam. However, the website is not clear on how each class works. Do you pay for each credit for every class that is required? LPN To RN is 67 credits, so that is 67x315 per credit hour????? Sorry to sound simple, but it is NOT clear anywhere, and I did not get the info when I called. Thanks!
