Excelsior Pace

Hi there! I was hoping someone who's taken a few nursing classes at excelsior could tell me if it's possible to study for two exams at a time and take them together at around 8 week intervals. Is it too ambitious or reasonable?

Thanks!

Abby

Totally up to you and your abilities. People have successfully taken at least three exams in one day, but they were exceptionally well-prepared or that good at test-taking.

Thank you!!:)

I would take a test by itself first just so you know what to expect and how motivated you'll actually be when it comes down to it. After that, you'll have a better idea what the work load is and how much you can handle.

Thanks Liz! í ½í¸€

Yes, I agree. You utlimately determine if you can take 2 exams in 8-week intervals. I was also considering doing this with LS2 and LS3 because I wanted to be CPNE eligible by August 2016. Don't know if it's a good idea or not yet í ½í¸¬

a girl on facebook just took 3 exams in 8 days and passed all 3 she said she only used studygourp 101 and thats what I've used for my first 3 exams and they are great

Yes I saw her posts. She said she studied each section about 30 mins and as soon as she scored 60-70% on the practice exam she scheduled her exam. I'm working on the first of the Life Span series. SG101 works great. I will still be using a few additional resources just to get the details I need to bring all the information together. But will primarily use SG101.

Hmmmm interesting thread this is...I'm actually planning to take foundations on Jan 15th and reproduction following...I too am using study group101...my coworker was ambitious and took her exams every 2 weeks by reading te content guides and studying the practice exams...she passed too...I guess it's all about your study habits and ability to retain info. I want to be eligible for the fcca in February. ..so we shall see how it goes..plus they've gone up on the exam costs so that's another factor lol:clown:

Just a tiny caution: sometimes people who speed through these exams are doing so at the expense of their GPA. Your grades will matter later if you decide to continue for a BSN (desired in many areas) or have aspirations of advanced practice nursing. I seriously recommend striving to master the materials covered in each exam. There will be areas of some exams that will just be review for you, and you obviously can afford to spend less time there. But lately I have seen a lot of people in the Facebook groups who do the practice exams, skim some notes, and fail the exams. Those grades follow them and put them at risk for academic probation. You also do not get unlimited attempts at the exams, either.

Just my opinion, of course. Best of luck!

I absolutely agree Pixie.RN that's why I give kuddos to those who can take 3 exams in eight days. But I stay away from the notion "If so and so took 6 exams in 2 weeks than why can't I?" There's no way I could take 3 major exams in 8 days! The beautiful thing about Excelsior is that they give us plenty of time to finish at our own pace. I am one of many who have test anxiety so I wouldn't risk my GPA just to beat a deadline. I want to graduate with a GPA that would get me into Excelsior's BSN program. 👍👍👍

In my opinion I wouldn't do it. Unless you live very far from a testing center I'm not sure how much time that would even save you. The first few nursing exams I probably could have done 2 at a time because they were more review from LPN school. Also it depends on your knowledge base now and your experience. The big tests like a&p or LS1-3 I wouldn't dream of lol.

I don't think 8 weeks is too ambitious at all as long as you feel comfortable testing when the time comes. Before excelsior forced me to take a winter break (won't let me schedule an exam between Dec 13 and Jan 4) I was testing every 2 weeks. I prefer to focus on one exam at a time but this method would allow for 4 exams in 8 weeks which is pretty good considering there's only 8 nursing exams to be taken. As Pixie mentioned earlier and as I have said many times on these forums, use caution when deciding when to test. I happen to test very well and have received mainly A's thus far (don't want to jinx it). Grades do matter and while they say "C's get degrees" I've yet to meet a CRNA or APN who settled for doing the minimum amount of work to get the minimum passing grade. Just something to keep in mind.
