Dec 16, 200916 yr Well, no, but it sounds like a good idea! I think I went home covered in urine and blood clots one day. None in my eyes though! Maybe a gown is a good idea?
Dec 16, 200916 yr i don't wear goggles at all. ever. i wear my "birth control glasses." (my older glasses with bigger lenses that i am assured render me asexual). i wear a fluid shield mask when messing with anything arterial other than a perfectly intact art line.
Dec 17, 200916 yr I don't, and I bring in a chux and aim it so if there's leakage it will hopefully land there.
Dec 17, 200916 yr I am VERY cautious and wear whatever PPE is necessary in any situation. Yesterday I was going to suction a trach, the family told me the other nurses don't wear a mask and sheild when they suction my brother. WELL, THIS nurse DOES and WILL always.
Dec 17, 200916 yr Used to be an RT before RN, and after getting sputum in the eye from a coughing trach patient, I started wearing Gargoyle eyewear all the time. When I transitioned to nursing, I was used to wearing the Gargoyle's so I wear them all the time. I know they help because I find all sorts of spatter on them by the end of shift.
