WHAAA?!? What on earth are they thinking? They need to raise money for the hospital...from the employees?
Our parking in inadequate, but it's free!
The hospital I worked at in Boston charges $6.50 a day and if you were there over 10 hours then you were charged extra. You were assigned a garage and they had shuttles that ran from them to the hospital. The garage I was assigned to was clear on the other side of the Pike from the hospital and if I didn't time it just right, I was waiting for up to 15 minutes for the shuttle. The hospital I am returning to has employee only parking that is close AND the shifts from 7PM on can park in the visitors garage right outside the front door.
To me that is just so absurd to have to pay to park at your place of employment. It should be provided at all times for free and in a well lit area for the evening and night shifters. I wonder if other professions or other working folk have to pay for parking. We are provided with a parking sticker, but no parking fees . That is just too much. Why on earth would the employees have to be charged? I guess it's all about money as usual, the Skanks!
The first criteria that I am going to look for with my next employer (which will be in about two months from now) will be FREE EMPLOYEE PARKING that is UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL to the facility/hospital and NOT out in the boonies like the "free parking lot" is where I work now.
I'm sick and tired of getting off work at 7:30 to 8:00 at night, pitch black outside, only to be told security is too busy to pick me up and take me to the dark parking lot at a distance from the hospital. I hate the parking situation worse than I do working on my floor.
Doctors get decent parking spots, and nurses should to. So much for trying to make nursing a "profession". :stone

In an effort to raise funds for the hospital, they have recently begun charging to park in the parking garage. What was a free "perk" now costs $4/day. They have taken away the "employee only" lots and they allow visitors and patients to park anywhere. Needless to say we all want the free spots. I work 11a-11p and there are never free spots available that are "safe" to walk to after my shift, and it frustrates me to pay $4 to come to work. We have had several town hall meetings on this subject and the parking fees are staying, in fact we were told we were "lucky" to only have to pay $4 dollars since in the"big cities" it costs $10 to park. Ugh.... The real kicker is that the parking garages were donated by a family that wanted to give back to the nurses who cared for their mom! Nobody had heard their thoughts on the parking fees. Just venting....and curious.....who has to pay to come to work?
