Do I even bother?

Nurses General Nursing

Not sure if I am posting this in the right place!

I am in my second semester of nursing school in a ADN program. We had our finals this week & I failed by 1 point so I am out of the program unless I can go to remediation they offer. I have had 2 semesters of clinical experience, on an Ortho med surg floor, GI med surg floor & GI lab, and a CPCU. Since I won't be in school this summer I wanted to get a job. I was hoping to get a job as a tech in an ER or on another floor.

Should I even bother applying for jobs at hospitals since I failed? I plan on getting a degree in nursing, either by getting back into this ADN program or by working towards a BSN.

I would still go for it. The worst that can happen is that they say no.

are you going to the remdiation? i say go to remediation and apply for the er job.....

dust yourself off and follow your dreams :)

Best of luck to you

Go for it.....and apply to the hospitals look into EMT training....every little bit of experience helps later and it shows your drive to be a nurse

Good luck!!

Don't give up! you can do it!. keep you head up, go to remediation this summer and start again in the fall. and go ahead and apply for a job as a tech and just tell them when you'll graduate counting the fall semester. they wont hold it against you. whatever you do, Dont give up! good luck!

Yes, you should apply as a tech. The experience you get just from the milieu of the unit will prove to be invaluable to you.

Moreover, if you work hard and show your peers that you are dependable, you will get some AWESOME references.

Please don't give up on nursing school. A challenge has been placed squarely in your lap now. Find the strength to rise above the negativity that surrounds you right now. Show your instructors, and more importantly, yourself, that you can succeed.

Specializes in Med/Surg, DSU, Ortho, Onc, Psych.

I worked with a guy who failed one subject by one point. He went and argued his case to no avail. He couldn't go on and do other subjects, as he'd failed this one which was a pre-requisite subject for others. He gave up, and I don't know if he finished his degree as I left the job I was working in so didn't hear from him again.

I failed a subject and was going to give it all away, but I enrolled again and studied like mad and passed with a good grade. I think you should do it again. Can you work and do the subject externally somewhere?

I agree with everyone else, don't give up. Remediation comes first, job comes second. Best wishes.

Specializes in LTC,med-surg,detox,cardiology,wound/ost.

I would still apply for the tech job. They will not care if you failed a course by one point. Make the employer aware that you will be going for the remediation. Just remember that your GPA is not posted behind your title :)

Specializes in cardiac.

do the remediation, it will help you when you have to take the class again. get a tech job, it will help you network when you're ready for your rn job. they do not need to know that you failed a class. they won't be asking for your school transcripts to be a tech. you will want to let them know that you are in school and will need to work around your school schedule.

before you go and apply for a job though, take some time and reflect how you're semester went and what areas you can improve on. i was in the same boat, failed by 2 questions. when i redid my semester i worked extra hard to have a cushion so failing would not be an option the second time around. it is hard to swallow and it kills your self esteem and confidence, but it will really make you a better nurse in the end. i promise you this!

keep your chin up and good luck!
