Do you have your dream job?

Nurses LPN/LVN

I wanted to know if anyone was working in there dream job. If you are, i want to know what it is and how you got there! I have been in home health and need a change. I'm looking for my dream job!

Specializes in geriatrics.

Nope. I'm working prn at a place where I would like to work full time but no positions. So I'm also working somewhere else and waiting.

Specializes in Psych, CD, HIV/AIDS, Complex Medical CM.

I am. I work in chemical dependency research on an NIH/NIDA study, as an LVN MP, with a couple other hats to wear now and then. I always wanted to work in research in my specialty, but I never thought it would be while I was an LVN. Pluses are that I love my job, but minuses are that it has slowed me down in finishing my RN. I actually will end up completing my MPH before I get my RN (which I will do in 3 years, when the study ends.) But I'm happy and not complaining.

Well, I am in home health and it is my dream job. Working with one patient in a more relaxed setting can't be beat as far as I'm concerned.

Xxweaponx. That sounds amazing! There are so many things you can do with as an lvn! How did you land that job? Do you still do patient care?

Caliotter3. I totally agree with you. As i write, i am sitting in a 23 million dollar home in newport beach where i help a client live out her last days. I feel like im missing out on different experiences though. Home health is always there for me and i want to see what else i can learn.

Specializes in LTC, Psych, Hospice.

I work in hospice and love it. I see LTC/ALF pts 2 days/week. The other 3 days, I work in the office doing QA or whatever else my DON has lined up for me. I'll be dropping my office days this fall when school starts again.

I worked in hospice for 7 years, but needed a break. It wasn't the patients, or the work, it was the management. Am now working as an elementary school nurse, and it is a dream job for me! No computer charting until late hours, paperwork is straight-forward and easily done, no unrealistic and yes, silly demands from my manager and agency, no worrying about hospice meeting our census goals and me keeping my job. The job is mandated by the state, but funded yearly. It's certainly not guaranteed, but whose is? I love working with the kids, I love my principal, the girls in the office are a huge help when i need it. I have never worked anywhere else where I was appreciated more. I honestly couldn't ask for anything better. After working in the corporate world for 22 years, then hospice for 7, this job is absolutely the best job I've had my entire working life.... The money? yup, it's not much but my health insurance costs me nothing and I have county benefits. My husband (who is unemployed) and I make do so I can continue with this job. The bad part? We are planning on moving this year or next and taking large hit on our house, because he just can't find a job here. My new state doesn't use LPN's as school nurses. :crying2: Still, for now, even when I have to eat pb&j for lunch 5 days a week cause I can't afford anything else, I love it. And I thank my lucky stars every single day!:D

Specializes in NICU, L&D and ED.

I do not work in my dream job yet but I am very close and getting experience now that will be helpful. I am working in Labor and Delivery right now but my dream job is working in the NICU when I get my RN and going back for my Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. But right now as an LPN labor and delivery is as close as I can get to NICU.

Specializes in geriatrics, IV, Nurse management.

Not working in my dream job yet, but my goal is to become a case manager. Someday. After a lot more education. :)

YES I have found my dream job. I have been and LPN since the mid-70's and always worked in the hospital and thought that I would be there until I retired. But in 2007 I could feel a change and I am glad I made the decision on my own to leave. Went to LTC for a few months and contiued to look for something else. Answered an ad online in the Plasma industry. Didn't really know what a Physician/ substitute was at the time. But I was willing to give it a try and I am sooooo glad I did. I am now head of my dept. ( I have RN's and LPN's working for me ) and we are growing. I am making more than I have ever made and get 4 bonuses a year! Next step is either assistant manager or working in the quality dept or training dept. If you are detailed oriented, good at phycial assessments, and like a fast paced environment then this may be for you. I also travel for the company when the need is there. And a plasma center cannot open its door without a nurse there! The bad part is can be long working hours esp when you are cross trained into the different depts. but the more you know the more job security! And more money for early retirement. Although I love this job so much I will probably fo part time when the time comes. I love my donor's and no more back pain with all of the heavy lifting in the hospital I only life a chart lol:yeah:

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

Although I am working, it is not my dream job. However, it is a dream come true to have a job in a sluggish economy where many unemployed nurses wish that they had employment.
