CPR Certification?

Published

I'm pretty sure that I have to have a CPR certificate befor I get into nursing school-Jeff state- I have two small children and I have never even taken a class!! Where do I go to get certified?:uhoh3:

Google the Red Cross. I found the link on a United Way website I think. Really nice because they had all the different CPR classes (who knew there were so many different CPR certifications) listed with the dates and times. It also allowed me to register for the CPR class online. I signed up for the CPR/AEF (Adult Fibrillation) version, don't think I need to know how to use the defibrillator but I figure it doesn't hurt to know, many facilities now stock them as first aid equipment. Also, if you have a YMCA membership, some offer CPR certification. Good luck! I hope this helps.

Check with your local American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Both can be found on line. Good Luck! There are usually like 2 4 hour classes or one 8 hour, if my memory serve me right. :uhoh21:

You have to be carefull about taking courses other than American red cross or american heart some facilities don't accept the others.

Hoover Fire Dept offers healthcare CPR training on the first Sat of every month. Use Google to search for their website and you can reigister online. I am scheduled to take the class in Aug.

Did you check to make sure the nsg program at JS doesn't provide an on site course? It has been a few years since I was in nsg school but I seem to recall that SUSCC (SUJC at that time) provided a course for the nsg. students.

Wait till you get your acceptance letter to get your certification as its good for two years then you'll have to renew. The hoover fire dept does offer it and you can sign up online for the class. Its just a morning class and everyone passes :) Its free for Hoover residents.

It depends on who you get it through. The American Red Cross cert is only good for 1 year.

Also....I just graduated and start my job soon. I've kept up CPR cert for adults, children, and infants. I just found out I was supposed to be taking the class "CPR for healthcare workers". So...even though my cert isn't up yet, I have to go next week to get recertified.

Most any fire departments will offer a CPR class. But as a nursing student or nurse you will have to have BCLS for Healthcare Providers..... make sure that you tell them that is the one you need.....

And now, even American Heart renewal is every 2 yrs for health care providers.

Good luck to you all!

Thanks. I needed this information. Hopefully I can get this done ASAP.
