I came into nursing in my late 30's/early 40's and thought medical terms were weird. . . . I had a hard time writing SOB because to me it meant a profanity. Now I write it w/o even thinking about it.

Everyone says cabbage here . . . especially in CCU.

steph

I hear it referred to as mer-sa much more than M.R.S.A

this is just driving me crazy. i am so sick of hearing m.e.r.s.a... how about mrsa and leave it at that. what's up with all the cutzie nicknames for a rotten bacteria.

you are right about the cutsie nick names! won't be long before we have mama's naming their precious babies mersa! :uhoh3:

where i'm from we call it m.r.s.a.

I have heard "cabbage" too, and M.R.S.A, but I've also heard it called "mer-sa". That gets under my skin, though.

LOL I chuckled when I read this but oh so true...

M.R.S.A here!!!

I know a Mersai... close enough for me, even though it's pronounced mer-sigh. Oh the world we live in! :uhoh3:

Here in Connecticut the news and laypeople call it mer sa.

but I've heard medical professionals call it mer sa and M R S A

either way its a nasty bug

When I first started my CNA classes my instructor would always talk about an infection called "Mercer" we needed to be aware of. Not having any education, I kept googling and trying to research Mercer to no avail. I did not know what she was talking about until I put 2 and 2 together at the nursing home and realized what she was talking about.

However, at my hospital, we say Mer-sa.

I have fun reading about this one, that is why I posted it!

Its just that the media has been all over MRSA in our area due to the increase in highschool students that have been testing postive.

I cringe every time I listen to a report.

It is MRSA for me.
