Correct me - MRSA

How are you saying MRSA? I've heard it many different ways.

Mar sa

Mer sa

M R S A

mer sa for me

mer-sa or M R S A

Either way works for me, though I prefer Mer-sa. Fewer syllables.

Me too . . . . so much verbiage in medicine, we shorten a lot.

steph

I say, and hear, "Mersa".

Recently I've been reading a lot about MRSA in the news. Some kids at schools have died from it. Our local schools have been pronouncing it "Mersah"....running all the letters together like it's a word. Have you ever heard of it being said that way? In my almost 20 years in nursing, I've only heard it said by the initials "M...R...S...A."

Just curious what you think.

Also, I'm trying not to worry about it becoming widespread, but it is a little scary!

I have always heard it pronounced "Mursa"

Bizarre! I guess it depends on where you live maybe??

Both MRSA and mer sa seem to be used regularly around here, but I have one nurse i work with who calls it mer sa staph. Makes me nuts! I always want to ask her, " just what is it you think the 'S' in M.R.S.A. stands for ?"

:smackingf....that would drive me nuts, too! That goes in the same category as people who say, "Nu-Cu-Lar". Maybe with this particular nurse, it stands for, "Mostly Resistant to Standard Alphabetizing":lol2:

We say Mersa here. I rarely hear anyone say M R S A.

Oh you and both witht the MRSA staph!! Our local TV news has been all over the "MRSA scare", as we've had quite a few cases in high school kids. Two reporters are FOREVER saying MRSA staph...ugggh!!! They have even given the words for the letters and added STAPH at the end...uhhh a bit redundent isn't it?!
