computer charting error

Nurses General Nursing

I have been charting under other employees logins at work on the computer because mine was deactivated after being on medical leave, these nurses are with me when I am charting, and have not given out their passwords to me. Is there an issue with this since after I chart I chart in the comment line that I completed and charted the assessment, and vitals?

I would think that there would be an huge issue. Whether or not you comment, the computer puts the other nurses signature on the chart.

You need to make a call to your tech department in order to get your login reactivated. Until then you should be using paper charting.

Yes, I would think that this is a big issue. Your IT dept. should reset your password for you or set it where you can change it.

I cannot believe they let you chart under another nurse's login. They are taking responsbility for charting that isn't theirs. I would get your account reactivated as soon as possible.

Yes a Huge issue. You need to contact your tech support immediately. They should be avail 24/7 at least ours is.

Contact tech support and get your sign on fixed. Maybe mention to your NM and the process will move faster if they call.

My facility uses computer charting for some, not all, functions. One of the main things they keep impressing upon us is to never let someone else chart on your "log-in," always log out before you leave the computer and let the other person log in under her/his own name/log-in. I agree that IT support should be available 24/7 and you need to get your own access & password reactivated right away.

Leaving a note stating that you did the charting does prove anything. I can leave a note with someone else's name on my computer charting if I want, but I am still liable. You are logged in under their name and they are liable. I am shocked that they are okay with this. There are major issues with this and it certainly needs to be taken care of.
