Does anyone know of anything I will need in my CNA course? I dont know if I will have to wear scrubs for the clinical part or not. Any input would be much appreciated.

MrsStock,

I would check with the instructor. CNA programs vary, and even the scope of a CNA varies from state to state. You shouldn't need too much equipment...

I would expect that you'll wear scrubs. (If you don't have to, you'll probably still want to. Trust me.) Make sure you have good shoes, because you'll be on your feet a lot.

You'll also probably want a stethoscope for BPs if the school doesn't provide you with them. Part of our competency included manual BP, and it's nice to use equipment you're familiar with. (I bought myself a steth & bp cuff to practice on just about everyone I knew!) :)

Hi,

Call your program and they will let you know everything that you need. We had to wear scrubs when I did my cna course.

Best of luck!

I am going to start one in August, and they want a specific colored scrub uniform, a white watch with seconds hand, and white closed shoes (no clogs). Better call and ask to make sure of what you'll need. Best of luck to you. :)

A WHITE WATCH!?! WOW... Now that's a new one to me! I kinda think that's going overboard. Don't know anywhere where they regulate your watch - that's usually a personal preference type thing.

I got a cheap black digital watch at Wal-Mart for like $5. Best watch I've ever owned!!:p

In my CNA clinicals we had to wear white scrubs & white shoes. They also required us to get a stethoscope. Other than that I don't think we needed anything else for clinicals.

We just needed a pair of scrubs, any kind, and comfortable shoes. They provided stethoscopes and everything else. Like it was said before, call your instructor for complete details. Good luck in your course! It is hard, but rewarding work. :)

Chances are on the first day of class the instructer will go over it with the class. My only big suggestion is a nice cheap watch that you can wash over and over and over again with your hands. I like the cheap plastic ones they carry at target for $10. They last me a a good amount of time.

watch with a second hand and it wouldn't hurt to buy a stethescope and sphygmomanometer (bp cuff) for practice at home. scrubs in a fabric that BREATHES! trust me i was sweating like a horse in the cheapies i bought.

heres the deal for tulsa. you need white scrubs, white shoes, a watch with a second hand, stethoscope and bp cuff. you'll need to know 56 different procedures; they'll ask you to demenstrate different ones for one hour. i could give you the list of everything exactly you'll need to know, but honestly, it's all pretty common sense except for a few things. you really need to know the obvious, how to wash your hands, take bp and listen to heart rate, brachial and radial. if you've taken the class i'm sure you know what to expect. good luck!sara
