Cheating classmates

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Im still in the process of finishing up some pre-reqs for the nursing program but darn it, it really burns me up when I see my fellow classmates cheating on tests while I'm doing the honorable thing and taking the exam as it was given..which is by myself.

I am in chemistry class this semester and it never fails, during an exam someone will want clarification on a test question or two. While the professor is distracted with this, the 4 girls that sit next to me will compare and change their answers with each other. This is a pattern of behavior with these 4 girls and I haven't said anything because I am of the mind set that its none of my business, but....boy, it makes me mad! I'm studying so hard to get a good grade and I feel like the 4 of them have each other to rely on to help them get a good grade. It just doesnt seem very fair.

Has anyone experienced this and if so what do you do about it. As a side note, I actually like the 4 girls in question very much..but the whole cheating thing.....its so not cool.

I think I would have to say something to the instructor outside of class. These are people competing for a spot in the nursing program. Imagine how you would feel if one of the cheaters got a spot and you didn't! I would like to think that cheaters will weed themselves out, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I would say something to your professor outside of class also. These are not the type of people that I would want to see in the nursing program.

Also check the code of conduct/honor code at your school, if one exists (some schools have them, some don't). In some schools having direct knowledge of academic dishonesty and failing to report may be just as bad as those who are cheating.

That said, have you tried saying anything to the girls? (What you'd say I have no idea because clearly they are aware of what they are doing. It's not like they think that exams are a group effort.)

Otherwise, if you are on good terms with your professor try mentioning something after class.

I'm going to take the other side of this argument, do nothing. The world has a way of giving people what they deserve (there are exceptions), let things work themselves out. This really is not your business, you don't need to go tattling on anyone. However, if you do decide to tell the instructor about the cheating, own up to it. If you hear the anyone ******** about someone telling on them let them know it was you who told on them and why, this might make them hate you but it's much better than lying about it.

I understand what your saying and more often than not agree with you. However pursuing a career based on good judgement and ethics, people that do that aren't people I would want to be in a program with.

I agree, but just because you don't want to be in a program with these types of people doesn't mean you need to involve yourself in their business. Let it work itself out and deal with the results, whatever they may be.

I'm really not trying to argue. Please don't take it that way. But if you were working in a hospital or doctors office or where ever you decide, and you saw someone doing something along the same lines, wouldn't you say something? Right is right and wrong is wrong. By not doing anything about it, you yourself would be doing wrong. And I agree about owning up to it. I wouldn't involve the entire class with it but I wouldn't lie about it. This is the beginning of our training. It shapes us to what kind of nurses we will become. That's how I'm gonna leave it. We are all different in how we handle things. The person who posted this asked for advice, and that is what we all gave them. Difference of opinion is what makes the world go round

Don't worry sweetheart I'm not going to argue with you. What we have here is just a difference of opinions, none more right or wrong than the other, just different in my opinion. You make some very good points, but to answer your question, if I was working in a medical setting and I saw something along these lines I would probably tell them it was wrong, but I wouldn't tell their superior unless it was endangering patients lives. I'm glad we can have a civil disagreement on this site without anyone getting upset or offended.

I bet if they are cheating ALREADY, there is a low chance they will make it into a nursing program. Let alone pass the first semester.

Me too! :D

There are these three girls who sat behind me while I took my A&P lecture exam. They had like similar test versions or they switched it around and was whispering amongst themselves for some of the questions. Needless to say, it wouldn't have ****** me off so much if the one girl didn't cough so much! I seriously could not stand her coughing and wanted to turn around and tell her to hack it out outside. But I digress, I think what I am going to do is just leave it as it is. I mean, if they are cheating than they are cheating themselves. Thats all, they will get their karma. Trust me, I don't think you should worry about it.
