Can't stop thinking about cadaver

Published

I saw my first cadavers a couple of weeks ago. It was a really neat and powerful experience. I can't stop thinking about the male one. He had so much suffering. I would love to know what conditions he had. Does anyone want to help me figure it out?

He had the following:

double heart bypass surgery

leg amputated above the knee

colostomy

feeding tube, but appears to be inserted into intestine, as they were not able to find a stomach on him.

emphysema

He passed away in his 70's from a burst intestine causing septic shock. That's all we know about him. What do you think he was afflicted with to cause all those combined health problems? Poor man. :(

Well, I'm pretty tired but this is my quick guess - Hyper Tension, DM, Crohn's. Just a guess.

Specializes in ICU/ER.

Sounds to me like a homework assisgnment.

But with a nice twist--Really I dont think the home forum is a place to post homework questions. Therre were plenty of times I was in school that I simply could not figure out what the question being asked was---call a classmate and brainstorm it with them. That is the best way to learn. If we do it for you, you wont retain it anyways.

Best of luck---

Believe me, it's not a homework question at all. It was just part of our community college lab, and seeing the cadavers was optional. I am an A student and I do my own work to get those A's. :) I would not cheat. I just thought that people with experience may know what he suffered from. It really moved me to see all that he went through, that's all. I'm not in nursing school yet and have no clinical experience.

I would be a little offended about your post but I'm sure you had good intentions.

Wish we got to check out cadavers in my community college courses. No such luck.

maybe he had a history of smoking which caused his emphysema, clogged arteries. leg amp could be diabetes, infection, necrosis or gangrene, or maybe from trauma(war vet). might have had cancer of the stomach?

Poor guy, huh?

DM for sure. (it just goes along with everything you described. CAD and probably PVD. I venture purely a guess gastric cancer (although might not) Chrones maybe.

Boy if this was homework you would almost have this question completed, nice that everyone is spelling out all the ailments this person may or may not have DM=Diabetes. PVD=Peripheral Vasc disease. etc etc

SO if you did see this cadaver well what was the cause of death? What did the coroner say???

I am guessing he got hit by a truck!!!~~~hey it is 3am and I am tired~~my sense of humor gets the best of me...
