Funny story - last year I was going through airport security at Heathrow, and they methodically threw out my shampoo, sunscreen, and hand lotion. I got on the plane, reached into my purse for my iPod, and realized they left my pepper spray in my bag! I guess it wasn't over 100 ml

As far as pepper spray goes--I've heard from several police officers that it get turns on the victim more often than they are able to use it for self defense.

As for the gun range--it's awesome let me tell you. I have a 9mm hand gun, but going to the gun range can be quite expensive and most of the guys with the hand guns are cops or the wannabe cop types--if that's your thing, go for it, but if you're really looking to meet guys while doing something fun look for events on meetup.com in your area for Shotgun events. It's a much bigger more powerful gun, but it's used for clay sports: an area where you will meet more mature guys.

I wouldn't mind carrying a gun, I'd hate leaving it in car while I worked or worse yet, turning it into security every day though. Somebody else stealing it would be horrible.

I have thought long and hard about buying a taser but it would depend on wheater the hospital I work at (in the future) would allow me to keep in my locker or if I would have to leave it with security or in the car. It doesn't do so much good there if some stuff goes down and I need it. I am terrified by guns so that would never be an option.

I don't carry pepper spray or a knife. I am very good at running and screaming like hell, though. My house, on the other hand, is a veritable orificenal of guns. I will not run away from my house. Intruders have the choice of being mauled by dogs and then shot or, if they like, they can have it the other way around. I'm easy that way.

I agree with you.....That creep that killed Chelsea in California would use pepper spray/mace on his victims.

Myself, I know some self defense which I think is the best weapon. I'm from a hang gun family and know how to use one well. However, unless you learn to use on right, they can be turned around on you in an instance. You ever watch those shows where women are holding there arms straight out with a hand gun in their hands? Not good, perfect for allowing the other person to knock it out of your hand. You

really need to keep your calm with hand guns and be very very careful.

Take a self - defense class. And most of all, be very ALERT to your surroundings.

I can imagine the "Dirty Harriet" comments that security would make, when they saw you approaching day after day to dutifully turn in your weapon, then pick it up again at the end of the shift.

It includes a steel cable that fastens around a seat rail inside your car, then the other end locks inside the box itself. While the box is "only" made from sheet steel, the steel is NOT soft, wimpy, cold-rolled steel. I had to cut a cable retaining notch inside the other side of the box, so I could put the box exactly where I wanted it. Even though I used an abrasive Dremel cutting disc that makes short work of soft steel, the steel used in this box took a decent while to cut into. HIGHLY recommended.
