The more you practice the better you get. Any of you practice at home or elsewhere? Who's your volunteer? Dad? Mom? Siblings? Boyfriend? Girlfriend?

I put a 20g IV in my dad at a family party. I had never done one and my aunt was like you need to learn before you graduate. Don't ask. My dad is a great sport with wonderful veins, you could get a line in him blindfolded. On a stranger note, in nursing school there was a rumor that one girl straight cathed her boyfriend as practice. Yikes.

There was a rumor in nursing school that one of our classmates put a foley in her sister for practice. My husband was my guinea pig for assessment practice.

Neither my children nor my husband has escaped being my 'patient' for assessment practice...heck, even the 2 dogs and 2 cats have been subject to it! hahha.

As for straight and/or Foley caths, yeah, on family or friends as practice..I'd rather not.

I let one of the CNAs who was a nursing student practice putting in IVs.

Hurt like crazy. Kinda makes you sympathize with the pt who wants to pick which nurse starts their IV

All in the name of the good practice and science!

you be careful about those practices. always seek professional assistance..

OUCH!

One of the girls in my class wanted to practice inserting a NG. No one volunteered so she did it to herself...

I practiced that stressful head to toe (fundamentals) on my 7 year old.

It's funny how freaked I was semester one with remebering all the steps in a head to toe assessment by your last semester you'll be able to do it without really thinking about the steps. It becomes as easy as tying your shoes! IV starts on the other hand are still a challenge !

Attempted to put an IV in my boyfriend when I was first learning IV's. I was so excited when I got blood return that I forgot to remove the tourniquet before I flushed. I pretty much exploded his vein. His hand look terrible for weeks.

I currently have no volunteers whatsoever in my family. Everyone of them are terrified of nursing in general, I don't know how I ended up wanting to do nursing :)

I remember these days!!!! Love it!!!
