Board Ordered Psych Eval

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hi folks

I cannot seem to find any psychiatrist willing to perform a board ordered psych evaluation. I have called and looked online but to no avail. One psychiatrist even told me him and his colleagues wouldn't because of the liability involved.
I'm totally screwed and stressed...

I even wrote to the board to see if they have a list of recommended places I could obtain one, they wrote back and said I have to find my own.

I need recommendations... Please help!

What state are you in? My program is setting up my appointment for me.

Ask a lawyer who specializes in licensing issues

My state had a list that I had to call and set up an appointment with.  I couldn't just go to anyone since they had to be "approved" by the monitoring agency.

Since your state is so unhelpful, I would ask a lawyer who deals with licensing issues for medical professionals on what to do or how to handle this.

I had to do forensic psy eval to get reinstatement. It was expensive!

call every psychiatrist in your area. If no luck start calling psychiatrist in larger towns. If you persist you WILL FIND ONE.

I also had to do a lie detector test!

It's usually one of the stipulations for safe return to practice. I had two of them. The first was for the state as I was collecting disability and they wanted to be sure I was actually disabled. The second time it was for the BON. I had to have it done by a psychiatrist who specialized in addictions and who was a QMP (Qualified Medical Personnel) These are the folks that usually serve as expert witnesses and stuff. For the state disability the state sent me a list of dates and places and I just had to schedule it. It literally was in a vacant office with a table and chairs in the middle of the room For the BON I also got a list from them and it just so happened that my primary psychiatrist was on that list.

To answer your second questuion I don't think it can be avoided as it is a stipulation for completion of most programs.
