hi i'm new to the site. i'm in the first semester of an adn program. tuesday we are taking an ati test. found out it's going to be $130 to take the test. all i know about the test is that it will show what areas i'm weak in and that there's no way to really study for the test. it sounds a bit like achievement testing. besides that i'm not really sure what it's about. has anyone taken this test? the price seems high to me also for a test but i guess everything in school is high anyway. i think we take another test at the end of the semester. i'm really nervous about this test.
thanks

We have to use ATI at my school also. Did you set up an account with them? If so, you can take practice tests. I know at my school, we use ATI as 'exit exams' for our finals to get ourselves ready for the NCLEX, but so far never had a placement test with them. I also have yet to hear about the $130 they are making you pay! Sorry I don't think I answered any of our questions!

Our fees are built into our tuition, but $130 seems cheap. Do you get books, too?
I take the practice tests several times during the semester so I can keep track of where I'm behind, and it pretty much tracks with how confident I feel in any particular area. The books are GREAT for studying for tests and the boards. I wouldn't *choose* to participate in the program, but since I have no choice, I'm trying to put it to good use.
If you don't get the books and access to the website, I'd kick up a fuss.
Thank you for the responses. They didn't say we were getting books just that we'll be taking the test. We're taking two tests this semester and we pay at the time ofthe test. I'll be looking for the books! We take test day after tomorrow. I hope I do well, lol.
Thank you again!

is it the beginning of the semester? it might be the critical thinking test, which is very easy, but no way to study for it. usually theyll give you a cumulative ATI at the end of each semester on the material youve learned and there are ATI books to study from, as well as practice tests that are helpful.

I just got ATI at my school too! We have to score a 90 on it or else we fail the class we are in. I just paid 200 dollars for it! It's crazy, and we have to take the HESI as our mid-curriculum test and as our exit test! The practice test help, but they are the same questions repeated. It also forms a focused review for you, but like all of us we already have tons to be reading. But if you have time go over their focused review and they have short little videos also! IT is basically just NCLEX questions though. Good luck :))

We get ATI tested too, all the way through. It identifies areas you are weak in and usually you get the books and a CD at the end, after taking the test. I won't lie - the test is hard. It also gives you an idea of how close you are to being ready to pass NCLEX.

The ATI test you take at the beginning of NS is usually a critical thinking assesment. That's what mine was. We had two tests that day in ATI and it was the critical thinking and a personality type test. There is nothing to study for. Just read the questions carefully and take your time.
The test you are taking about ask questions like:
All ballerinas are graceful and have good balance. Some ballerinas are tall. Not all ballerinas are thin. What can you assume of all ballerinas?
A. Most ballerinas are tall.
B. Ballerinas are graceful and have good balance.
C. Ballerinas wear pink.
D. If you are a ballerina you must be thin.
*This is not an actual question. I just made it up to show and example.
$130 is super cheap compared to the $350 I had to pay for my ATI tests, but I think my cost was for the entire year.
Thanks again for the response. I'm glad to know ATI is taken everywhere and not just something my school added at the last minute, lol. I am at the beginning of nursing school and I'm only a few weeks in.
There are so many tests! But if they help me study and know where I'm at in regard to the NCLEX then I guess it has to be worth it. All these tests make my anxiety go into over drive, but I'm sure I'm not telling you anything new. It's something we all have to go through to get to where we want to be.
Thanks for being here for a newbie! good night

our ATI fees were added to our tuition so our financial aid paid for them. Also we recieved 4 books from ATI that were included in that fee. A fundamentals book, a pharm book, a med-surg book, and a nutrition book. These are just extras. They are a condensed version of the books we had to buy for our actual classes and are a HUGE help. Its basically just all the important info packed down into small chapters. I use them everyday. as far as the testing goes we will take a cumulative ATI test at the end of the semester to show us where we are educationaly BUT the score doesnt affect our actual school grades. Our instructors use ATI just to evaluate the program. Good luck!
