Anyone have experience with EAP

I've posted previously that I made the mistake of talking to someone in EAP at a previous employer. The next thing I knew, my manager called me into her office & told me everything I had discussed with EAP. I went to EAP specifically so that my manager & coworkers would not know anything about my personal problems. I will never go to EAP at any employer again. Information is not kept confidential.

I would recommend a private therapist/psychologist for just the above reasons.

I did have a very helpful, very positive experience with an EAP counselor. I was never aware of any violation of my privacy.

I wouldn't use EAP for substance abuse issues.

EAP is bound by HIPAA.

My interactions with EAP have always been positive, although I do not have experience with drug abuse issues.

My issue had nothing to do with substance abuse. Every single thing I told the woman I saw went straight back to my manager. None of it was even work related.

I've used EAP and it was worth it! I highly recommend it.

Also- they legally can not discuss what you tell them to your manager. It's a dr. Ot privilege. So anyone who claims this has happened was wronged or they are being untruthful

Very interesting. EAP has always been offered at where I work and sometimes I thought about using them just because I can. Yikes! Something to think about when I need counselors.

Are you serious? They can disclose whatever they feel like. They are paid by the same employer as you. Who do you think they're going to be loyal to?
