I got a letter in the mail today informing me that I was "recently appointed as a biographical candidate into the "Cambridge Who's Who Among Executive and Professional Women in Nursing and Healthcare"...
What in the world is this all about? Anyone else seen this? I'm thinking it's a scam.

I'd report it, to the relevant authorities; they probably have some idea already what it is all about, and will warn you if it is a scam. Are they asking for money?

I've gotten it too, and it has gone right into my trashcan.

I've received things like this before and they usually go straight to the round file; I don't know if I'd say it's a "scam" but I think it is a moneymaking scheme.
Something along those lines charred my toast recently, however. I got a card from my certifying body that said I needed to call this # to "update my information" for their directory. I called, and did get asked a couple of questions. The main thrust of the conversation, however, was the sales effort on the other side! The man was trying to sell me a bound copy of the directory for "only two payments" of $40-plus. When I turned that down, he could put me down for a paper copy for "half that price."
Personally, I think I pay those folks plenty of my $$ to maintain my certification and I didn't appreciate the sales pitch!

In both high school and college I was nominated by my teachers for these books... They have books for many different things... I was in Who's who in American High Schools and Whos who in American Colleges. Each time, they sent me stuff, I filled it out, and sent it back in. One of the times my parents bought me the book that my stuff was published in... It was a nice book that went under my bed, never to be looked at again! It does looks good on a resume, which is one of the reasons I did it...

santhony - I got that same notice from ANCC that you did - what a rip-off! I thought they were a legit organization. However, I don't appreciate my personal info being shared with telemarketeers.

It's not a scam, but it's not that you're being "honored" either. These publishers are sometimes called "vanity presses", meaning that they do these books for the sole purpose of selling them to the people who are IN them.
It won't cost you a dime to complete their questionnaire, and give them the material they need to list you. However, if you WANT a copy of that book (and they are certainly betting you will), it costs a pretty penny! And, they know that everyone who sent in their bio for publishing will not only get one for themselves, they are likely to get one for Mom, kids, whoever.
I was told of my "honors" option in high school, in college (first time), in college (second time), and as a Who's Who Nursing Student. Yeah, me and HOW many others....?
I honestly don't think it'd do diddly squat for a resume. It'd be hard to imagine anyone in the position of reading a resume not knowing that these "honors" are bestowed upon THOUSANDS of people each time, in an effort to get enough of them to respond to put together the book for which they'll pay for printing.
