I am in Beginning algebra and struggling. I am going to a tutor whenever I can and I am able to do it with them however when getting it home or on a quiz/test I just stare and have no clue where to begin. Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble or is it just me? I have been thinking about dropping it but dont want to, thats only the easy way out and will prob. have to take it anyway one of these days. I know there is good websites but would like to find one that explains it to you over the speakers type thing, does anyone know of anything like that?

Does your campus have some sort of tutoring center for students to utilize? My college has a place called "The Learning Center" where you can go for math and science tutoring, for free. :)

Are you taking a develpmental course or is it one where you get a letter grade? I am sorry that you are struggling. Keep trying!
No its a 3 credit letter grade course. I just dont want to let it ruin my GPA or my whole semester worrying about it. I just hate taking something that I will NEVER use.
How do you know you won't use it? I'm just a pre-nursing student myself, but we use math all the time in my nutrition class. If you have a good foundation of math, it won't leave you struggling in other classes where math'll come up later on.
To take the Intro to Chemistry towards nursing we need to have completed a certain level of math. I think College Algebra is required or you can't take Chem. Some nursing schools require you to take a math test to get in.
Could you drop this class and get into some kind of remedial math to build up your skills before re-taking this one?
Yh, I am sure I could but dont want to take forever to get done. I can get into the chem. class after this algebra class (community college) this is the only math class I have left to take, I tested out of the placement math section when I registered for the semester. I guess I will just keep getting a tutor and hope for the best, nothing is easy in life that is going to get you anywhere.
Hang in there and keep the tutor, you are right, nothing is easy in life that is going to get us anywhere. I have struggled with math all my life

I am the world's worst math person. I had to take two algebra classes for my BSN and I thought I would just die! That said, I did get a tutor and really tried and squeaked through with a C. I'm not too proud of that but for some reason I just can't get the math stuff.
That said, I have been a nurse for 16 yrs and don't use algebra EVER, EVER, EVER. However, you do use ratio and percent and you do have to be able to give medications in the correct doseages.
So...in the end, do what is necessary to get through the class, but don't sweat it. Good luck...I can certainly sympathize with you.

I am definitely in your shoes. I hate math, and math hates me. This is my 3rd year of college and I haven't enrolled in one math course, the highest math I completed in High School was Algebra 1 ( i don't remember anything from it) and I think I passed with a C- :-(. So, now I have to take a math test for nursing admissions and pass with a 90%, I also need to take elementary algebra, before i can get into my intro. to chem. and to get into elementary algebra I have to place into it. I can't even complete even half of the practice test. What am I going to do? Any advice

Algebra hates me and I hate it right back! I'm about to go back to school for nursing after being a pilot for almost ten years. A high school counselor told me that to be a pilot you need to be good in math and science, WHAT A CROCK of BS! Anyway I have to take intermediate algebra followed by college algebra and I'm scared to death of it. Really makes me wanna..:barf01:

You seem frustrated about the math class you are taking. You have to change your mindset if you want to do well in math. Algebra is not that difficult, you just have to keep practice. Since you are going to a tutor, you should do good. Good Luck to you.
