A&P 1

Published

ok, so I really love this website and I could spend hours reading everyone's experiences and advice!! :) Although it's becoming a bad habit and taking away from study time... lol...but trust me I study TONS!! Does anyone else feel guilty when they're not hitting the books?!!

First a&p test is the last week of sept. and we are covering chapters 1-4. I find chap. 2 the most difficult!! We haven't started 4 yet but it looks difficult as well.. it's all so in depth and covers all the basics! I'm using the Marieb eigth edition...any help with chemistry? (chap 2).. I was literally watching Bill Nye videos on youtube.. haha Thanks!!

That's what book I have. Chapter 2 is def difficult. Our first test is only on chapters 1&2, but we have no clue when it will be. Do you read ahead before class?

yea I read ahead before class.. you?! it's so hard though with other classes.. lucky your test is only on the 1st two chapters!! And the teacher is behind.. She's still talking about chap2 yet our hw for chapter 3 is due tomorrow... and I'll prob start reading chap 4 sometime this week. I just found this website

http://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model.htm

havent been able to do much with it yet.. busy... but it looks like it could be helpful! my teacher better cover all the material in time for the test! If I'm keeping up with everything and doing all that were supposed to she should be on top of things herself (get what I mean?!) lol

I'm hoping/thinking it will get easier after these first 4 chapters.. because then it'll be interesting stuff about the body and lots of memorization.. which I had no problem learning all of chap 1!! (hopefully most of the material on my test will be from this.. doubt it.. but it'd be awesome!) lol

I also have the same book. i just had my first class on Mon. We only lectured a bit on chapter 1. The first half was explaining the syllabus. I have the class tomorrow, this time w/lab, and we'll be going over the rest of chap 1 and starting 2. I've been reading ahead, so I know what the instructor will be lecturing about. I guess I got lucky. I just finished a bio class over the summer that went over every single thing in the first 3 chapters, and I have chemistry right now as well, so I'm learning the same thing over and over, so it's like a review for me. If you need help with a specific problem, I'm sure I can help as best I can.:D I know it looks like a lot, but once you get it, it's very simple.

thanks! yea, my problem is basically all of chemistry and biology.. lol I haven't taken the college courses yet.. though I've never liked them to start with.. it's a foreign language to me!

1_what cell organelles produce secretory vesicles?

2_which nucleic-acid molecules are involved in transcription but not translation in the synthesis of a particular polypeptide?

3_the mRNA start codon, AUG, matches up with a tRNA anticodon, _________.

4_Definite changes in the _________ of the cell membrane can be seen in a cell that is becoming cancerous.

5_what transport processes is vesicular transport not involved in?

..this is a lot to know for your 3rd week of class!! lol

geez...my teacher must be really behind. I've been to 4 classes and i cant answer those questions yet. I try to read ahead, but my teacher jumped from chapter 1 to muscle tissues, then back to the chemistry part, so we never know what he's going to cover.

Zoowee!

Is that out of your study guide or were they on the test?

I am on a similar chapter in my course (we use Hole's and are on Chapter 3 - Cells - we go to ch 4 next, which is more Cells, so maybe we go into more depth then) and I recognize some of the things you are asking.

The codon question I would not be able to answer with the textbook open as it did not go into that much detail (I think there is a chapter on genetics later on).

Our 1st A&P test is also over Chapter 1-4 and its this Friday; my birthday at that. I love my professor, he is awesome, funny, and makes the material easy. I am sooo lucky! We are using Saladin, and our chapters compare with yours or at least it sounds like it. I am rather confident in the material we have learned thus far its the lab that freaks me out, straight memorization nothing else, no dissection, no lab work, just memorization to be regurgitated for the quizzes and practicals. And the quizzes are to be taken at the computer testing center. Seriously? I wanted to get my hands dirty, so to speak.

1) golgi apparatus

2) DNA

3) UAC

For homework in my A&P class we have to do some of the chapter tests from marieb.. but it's online on the coursecompass website. I found the answers on 1-3 still don't know about 4 and 5!! :(

Happy BDAY lol (test on ur bday..lovely) it'll prob happen to me too my bday falls on a school day.

I think #4 is the adhesion proteins on the cell surface are not present on cancer cells (allows them to metastasize).

I think #5 is diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and active transport. Substances go right through the membrane or channels with those. The other processes use a vesicle (pinocytosis, phagocytosis, exocytosis, and I am pretty sure transcytosis uses a vesicle to get the stuff from one end to the other quickly).

you sound like me! I was actually looking at Bill Nye videos too! It helped SOOO much. I am on chapter 2 also, using Marieb 9th edition... maybe we could be study buddiiiiies
