Is 40k to much to spend on nursing school?

What kind of degree will you be earning?? Is the 40k without any aid (grants, loans, scholarships)? How good is the school you are looking at (NCLEX pass rate etc, class sizes, retention rate)? What kind of school is this - private, public, religious?

Your post is almost too vague.

The public university I am at right now (hopeful RN student next fall) will cost 28k total without any aid for the BSN program. Plus I transferred in from a community college (so it would cost me more if I didn't start there) They have a great NCLEX pass rate, and small class size (only accepts 24 students per semester) But I also looked at two other university's in my city - catholic and christian and their tuition was substantially more money.

Also, location may play a roll as well? I'm not sure...I am located in northern Indiana.

You'd more than likely have to weigh your pros and cons and look at other nursing schools in your area before deciding if that is too much money for you to spend. If it's a BSN degree and you are following only a 4 year course study (not including remedial courses) it may be reasonable.

It's an associate's degree program. All the prerequisites are included. They have a 85% nclex pass rate & the tuition includes everything that you'll need for the program

That cost is WAY too high for an ADN. I definitely wouldn't go there.

Too much, especially with such a poor pass rate. Programs that include prereqs are big red flags, really. Sounds like a for-profit tech school. Run far and fast!

I went to a Community College and I spent WAY less than $40k. In fact, it was less than $4k, prerequisites included. I have an ADN... Hope this gives you some perspective. Oh, and my program has a pass rate >95%... and usually is more like 98% or higher.

If they were charging $40k, I would expect that they would have a similar pass rate. I would want my money's worth out of them!

Agreeing with all the posters above. For $40k you would want a better pass rate than 85%

That is way too much. I think you could earn an adn degree and BSN degree for less than that if you're going to a public school. but the cost of a BSN program varies from place to place.
