I posted this under the University of Texas @ Arlington under colleges, but it is not very active in there. So, I want to post this here.

I am bad at math, so I want to take College Algebra at my community college. It will be the traditional semester and is online.

That class will start 8/28 and ends in December.

I am taking Intro to professional nursing at UTA starting 8/11 and is ACCELERATED. It ends in 5 weeks.

It will cross over into English 1302, which is 8 weeks and starts 8/18. Intro will end 9/12 and Engl 1302 will end 10/10.

Then, 9/22 Technical Writing starts and it is 5 weeks and will end 10/24. Actually just thinking of it I can't take Engl 1302 and Tech at the same time, so I can take the one that starts on 11/3. By then all I will have is College Algebra when Tech writing starts.

So I will have Algebra and Intro at the same time. Then, 1302 will cross over. Intro and English will end and will only have Algebra for a few weeks by itself until Tech writing begins.

Will this be too much?

My worry is that you will be taking algebra on line, when math is your weak point. Online courses are great, if you do not need study buddies, etc. Make sure you hook up with the math tutors and math study center at your school, the very first week. And make a habit of going in there.

I would take the math on campus, but that is just me and I completely stink at math. I don't think the schedule is too much though.

Online classes can save a lot of time, I've taken a handful of them. On the other hand I would never have tried online Algebra because I stink at it as well! Watching the professor doing examples step by step on a whiteboard helped immensely. When confusion set in we would just ask him to show us again. You can only get that in a traditional classroom. If your really shaky on this subject I would urge against taking it online

Count me amongst the majority vote against online algebra. I shudder at the thought.

I tried it online and got a D. I have taken lots of online courses, but with Math, it's different. There are software issues, books or no books, etc. It can make a difference if there is a space or not a space in the problem. And who notices stuff like that? Grrr.. It was midterm before I had all the software figured out, the course figured out, etc. The Professor did not contact me at all, which let me know she did not pay attention to the grades coming in. Since I didn't feel like I had classmates, I didn't feel like I had anyone I could 'chat' and learn from.

The next term I did a hybrid. Loved it. It was also on computer, but was in a classroom setting and the teacher was right there. Worked at our own pace, but he was on top of everything. Best Math class I ever had.

If you are bad at math, I would avoid online college algebra and take it as a traditional semester-long course with my butt in an actual classroom seat two to three times per week. Instant feedback from a professor is important, especially if your math skills are weak. Good luck to you.

I took multiple online math classes and the ones I took utilized a tool called "MyMathLab" that provided instantaneous feedback and step by step instructions on the assigned problems. I did better that way than I did in a traditional setting. Check in to see if they utilize such a tool for math. I found it exceedingly helpful. However you go about taking math, consider looking online for software programs that help you do your math and provide tutor steps - such as algebrator. It makes all the difference in learning.

I took an in-person math class that required all homework to be done in the MyMathLab website. It was quite helpful for homework, but unfortunately the instructor had a weird ways of wording exams and I did poorly on them so I ended up dropping. I am currently taking an online math class that does not utilize MyMathLab so we'll see what happens! So far I have a low B after the first of four exams.
