well i start nursing school, aug 13 but im a little worryed about my spelling. i have a very hard time spelling. i wanted to know how this was going ot affect me in school. up to the point i have gotten a & bs in all my class "anp 1/2 orgo biochem and so on" but none of these classes ever had me spell out any things..

Honestly it might affect you a bit. We have to write care plans, research papers, and have to document in charts in nursing school. This is all very important and although perfect spelling isn't required, you have to be well understood by everyone: your teachers, fellow peers, and the medical professionals who will be reading your nurses notes.

no thats whats sucks, i can write to be understanded but, it just may have some miss spellings in it. as far as any thing that i have to type up on a cpu or at home i have ms word spell check..

I think it can affect you a lot honestly. Malpractice suits are not uncommon and your documentation is up for scrutiny by everyone involved. They are seen as legal documents.

I would probably start brushing up on your spelling. It can be tough but you can do it.

Do they offer grammar tutoring at your school? At my school we have free tutors for math and reading/writing at our writing lab. Why don't you see if there is a free resource of that kind and go every couple of days? That way you will be more prepared for what's to come. I highly suggest it.

If not....you have no hope of passing nursing school without a significant amount of remedial tutoring. Spelling isn't your only problem; you have no sense of sentence structure nor the basic fundamentals of writing the English language. Tutoring is going to take as much work as your prerequisites.

wow, no this is not a joke. I really do suffer from bad spelling. Prerequisites was a breeze to me i got an "A" ANP 1,2 AND AN "B" ORGO/BIOCHEM. the class average was around a 70. This proves to me the work is not the problem. there are many people who can spell who do not get accepted into nursing school.

its more towards reading, its never towards spelling

As someone who has tutored English as a second language, I'll tell you that you do have knowledge of sentence structure and grammar, though you seem not to like capital letters, which makes it look like you're always texting. If you have to take the TEAS V test for admission into a nursing program, you will likely have some difficulty with the English and Language Usage section of the test. Likewise for the SAT or ACT tests. On the other hand, if your grades are very good, and if you do well on the other parts of the test, you may not have great difficulty being admitted to a program.

I don't know how your spelling problem will affect your career. You might have to memorize key words that you'll write. The computer spelling checker is useful, but may lack many technical terms.

Didn't you have freshman English classes as prerequisites?

Yes i had english one and two. With those class i can go home and type my paper and have my wife proof read them. To get into the nusing school i had to take the hesi and i scored 98 in reading,98 in math but my english and vocab was at the min 70%. this is how i got in to nursing school. On the act i got 24 in reading but a 16 in vocab..

Not that im picking really hard at you, but your profile says you have 5 years of nursing experience. You should change that.

Your spelling will improve as you get older and more experienced. When I was 22, I was a horrible speller too. In the meantime, spell check is your friend.
