Is any body noticing less babies being born 2 years ago we were delivering over 700 a month now we are barely making 500. Granted some new hospitals have opened up but I work in big city and there are 6+ hospitals that are all run by the same company and we are all slow. I was just wondering if this was a regional thing or a bigger picture thing

Actually, the US Census Bureau reported that the country's birthrate is the highest it's been since the 60's.

Of course, with the economy in the toilet like it is, it's possible we may see a "baby bust", just like there was during the Great Depression.

I was hearing about a baby boom too. I know a number of pregnant women and a lot of women who have just given birth. I don't work OB, but the census has been down almost everywhere. I work agency per diem so get to see what its like at a lot of places. Census is low pretty much everywhere around here.

We had been pretty busy until about three weeks ago, we have been handing out low census almost every shift now. We usually average 120 births a month in summer and slow down about this time, however last year we had 130 births in Oct, 120 in November. So in comparison we are slow!

Right now everyone is just waiting for the "other shoe to drop".

No drop here that i can see.....we are busy lately. I think for you, the "poop will hit the fan" soon....

Maybe a tiny bit down for the year but about the same really.

And this month is NOT slow so far :)

We only got busy again this past week, before that, things were really slow.

Oh my goodness we are SO slow. I was called off of work a few days ago and my friend told me they had 5 patients with 3 to go home yet and only 5 in L&D. I don't know what the deal is... it's like it comes in waves. When we're busy, we're sooo busy. But when we're slow, it's like the night drags on. C'mon people! Get busy!

We have been so slow too...I've been cancelled a lot. It's nice to be off, but not so nice when the paycheck comes!
