I am in the midwest (wisconsin) I have signed on to work at a medium-sized hospital after I graduate in May. I have received $12,000 for a two year commitment. I was just interested to see what the sign -on bonuses are like in different regions of the country. :) Jess

is that a sign on bonus???? If so how do they break up the payments, cause I know they are just gonna give you $12,000

The bonus will undoubtedly have "strings" beside just the 2 year commitment. Look for many odd shifts, patient loads etc. I would imagine the contract calls for immediate return of the money if you do not fulfill the entire agreement. I also would imagine that taxes will be taken out before you receive it, and the money will be reported as income.

I was looking at the job postings of Duke Medical Center (Raleigh/Durham) and they offered a $2500 sign on for RN's and $5000 for BSN's. Both were split in two - half paid after a year and the other after 2 years.

This is how it works. We can either have the $12,000 in one lump sum when we graduate or have it broken up into one payment of 3,000 while still in school and the other 9,000 when we graduate. I chose the second option and have already received the first 3,000. I'll get the rest in May

Wow, you guys are lucky to get sign on bonuses. Maybe I should move to the states for the extra cash.

We don't get any perks like that in the North.

i've seen anything from $5000 to $30,000 in the cincinnati area. the $30,000 was for a cardiac unit of some sort. i didn't look into very deeply as i don't care to drive into the city for work. but there's always strings of some sort. some you can live with, some you can't. as the old saying goes "you never get something for nothing."

Wow! I think I want to graduate all over again.

That's awesome. We have no sign-on bonuses here. One local hospital was giving $5,000 for critical care nurses in the open heart unit.
