Workshops for CPNE

I'm a little ahead of myself here but who will be taking one of those private workshops? Lunah, you've been a big inspiration to me, will you be doing EC's workshop or private?

I've heard about Tina's workshop in California, has anyone gone to that workshop? I've also heard that Tina's workshop is much better than EC's. When I get to that point I want to know if it's worth it to take that trip. Thanks guys your opinions are all welcome.

I did Lynn Frederick's workshop last weekend -- http://www.clinicalprepexam.com -- it was fabulous!! Another one that comes highly recommended is the Tina that lives in Pennsylvania -- that might work better for you, location wise -- http://www.necpneworkshop.com/ -- this is a different Tina than the California workshop Tina. I've heard good things about her as well, but I know I personally couldn't afford to fly to CA for 5 days.

I did fine with EC's workshop, but at the time there were several less than reputable private CPNE prep workshops out there, so people were wary of them.

Currently, Lynn and the two Tina's seem to be establishing pretty solid track records. It's hard to pass up a prep course that promises to be longer as well as cheaper - and the private guys are doing that now.

Im glad to hear that they workshop was good. I live in NC and plan to take it June. Can you tell me a little more about it. How was the atmosphere? What kind of people were there? How were their skills? After leaving, did you feel like you had mastered the concepts or still need more work. What impresses you the most about the workshop? Thanks! I'm getting so excited.

I did the EC workshop and felt really good afterwards. I took detailed notes and when I got home I rigged up the stations like they had them in the workshop and just practiced all the time. Like anything you take with you what you put into it. We did all the timed stations, they gave us pneumonics and the grid, mock PCS situations with care plans/documentation, stress reduction, and a bunch of other stuff I cannot remember right now.

The instructors were really great and the other students brought up great questions. Everyone was really supportive and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I took all the skills I learned there and I passed the CPNE on the first shot.

The thing I remember most was just a feeling of relief in having the CPNE broken down/explained. I came away with a core understanding of how I need to study and practice, and what I need to do to prepare myself. This will be different for everyone, but Lynn will help you get there. :) I didn't hope to master all the concepts in 2 days, but I have the tools (the mental ones, really) to do it now. Everyone was very friendly and helpful to each other -- there was no "I have more skillz than U" type of attitude from anyone. Everyone had varying levels of skills because we all practice in different areas. For example, I had never packed a wound. I did well on my first attempt, which was very exciting! It'll take a lot of practice. But I knew how to hang a piggyback med already (we do this a lot in the ER -- I'm never the one really hanging it because it is a med, but I've seen it done a bazillion times), so I was able to help others learn that.

You'll get a lot from this workshop. Be prepared to take notes! :)

Thanks Lunah!

I'm doing well on the test and plan on finishing them by March. Do you think I should attend the April Conference or wait till June to attend? I was thinking June so I would have the CPNE booklet to go over stuff but it sounds Like you learned alot of things on how to start studying. What do you suggest?

If you plan on finishing in March, then April, definitely. You should have your CPNE study guide by then. As a matter of fact, I think you can call/email EC and request it earlier -- I'd give them a shout when you're done with the next to last concepts exam and see if they'll send it. That way you can jump right into that guide when you're done with your last test. By the way, you don't get a printed copy from EC anymore -- you'll get a CD. You have to print it yourself, or have it printed for you. I got ripped off by Staples, seriously. I paid triple what OfficeMax would have charged me! Arrrgh. Live and learn, right? :D I'd suggest getting it printed double-sided to save pages -- it's 502 pages in length.

They sent me mine early.
