work-study program in US

hi. i am a foreign registered rn. is anybody familiar with the global scholarship alliance? it offers foreign nurses a fully funded msn scholarship at an accredited american university and a paid practical training as a nurse (part-time/full-time) at an on-campus hospital at the same time. several universities and hospitals throughout us serve as educational and training partners. if you are familiar with the program could i ask for any comment or advice? i am intending to participate in the said program. thank you so much!

Please take the time to do some reading on the International Forum about this program as well as others like it.

Student visas do not permit one to work in the US, it requires additional approval of the US government and that cannot even be applied for until one is in the US under the student visa. There is no full-time experience involved as you cannot work full-time with a student visa unless it is during summer vacation or breaks. No more than 20 hours per week for work and this is per the US government.

This program also requires that you return home for at least two years. You will not be able to remain in the US when this visa is over with.

Hi I also went there at GSA and They have discussed the programs to me.

Study and work as part time.. But I'm still researching about this company.

hi sugarRN..i learned about GSA thru an email they sent to me and their website..its a very attractive offer and a big opportunity as well. i mean, where else could you get a free masteral scholarship in a university?i am willing to work and study at the same time. i may earn less but it doesn't matter. the point is ur already in US soil. what bothers me is that i was informed that after the program you have to go back to phils. and then im not so sure what happens after that. Are the visas they are offering only student visas?or do they also issue working/immigrant visa?

ur right, i guess it is better if we do more research about the company and their program. i hope we'll get more feedbacks from other people thru this post..thank you so much also for responding..tc

In my own opinion, there is no scholarship grants that would not require you to do service for them after you finish their program. After all they have helped you with your continuing education. There is always a catch to everything especially if it involves big money. Going back to your home country is a good way to teach and render service to others who are in need.

im a gsa scholar!most of my colleagues are ther in ny already!long island university!they finished their msn major in nurse executive already!they are on j1 visa!while studying for 3 years they are working partime on their affiliated hospital!but after graduation they have remaining 1 1/2 years to work as a full time.sadly i was late for my papers to be submitted thats why i was not able to join them!gsa applied me to another university in pennsylvania!millersville university,i was accepted together with the affiliated hospital, but the hospital wants their applicant to be filed on immigrant visa!thats why im still waiting for the retro to be lifted!

The J-1 visa requires that one leaves the US for a minimum of two years.

Does not matter what happens with the retrogression, the issue is that with this visa, one needs to leave the US. The entire premise of the visa was that the nurse would return to their country for at least two years to teach.

J-1 designates an exchange visa. And is not transferable to other status.

We ask that you write in proper English instead of text as many people do not use it or understand it but also you will have to pass English exams and this is a good way to practice writing in English. Also hospitals documentation will only have agreed abbreviations and text will not be among them

Not sure if you understand how the retrogression works. It is in place when the demand for visas exceeds the number that are available per year. Depending on your country of birth and things can be expected to take longer than other countries. We do not expect the retrogression to be over anytime soon, more like years with the numbers that are already waiting with completed files for a visa number.

And do be aware that if you have signed a contract for this program, it is for the J-1 visa and that it cannot be adjusted to another visa and you are expected to return home to teach for a period of two years when you are done with your program. It is called an exchange visa and means just that.

If you have signed an agreement with an employer already and then decide to try this program please be aware that you will be responsible for the cancellation fees that will be do to the original employer.

There are no shortcuts to getting to work in the US.

hi! i asked somebody from GSA about this and they said that they are releasing F-1 visa starting this year. and the nurses under this do not have to go back home and in fact they are allowed to stay in the US once sponsored by their employer for a working visa. Even if you have a sponsor you still need to maintain F1 status to stay. Having a sponsor does not give permission to stay and work whilst waiting and if you can't afford to then will have to return home and wait

I am having hard time understanding this program, Colleges and Universities are have a hard time remaining solvent especially with the threat of student loans being eliminated. How can they give away free tuition for international students while turning away Americans?

These international students won't relieve the faculty shortage since they have to leave after completing the program?

How does the owner of this program make money?
