  1. I am knowledgeable on renal failure. I am also skilled in peritoneal dialysis and kidney/pancreas transplant. It is the hemodialysis portion of the exam that would most likely be a challenge for me. I do intend to apply for CNN. I guess the best I could do is to focus and study more about HD - concept, procedure, etc. But without HD experience, would I actually have the chance of passing the exam?
  2. I have been working on a Nephrology/Transplant Unit (med-surg) in a hospital for almost three years now. I am interested in getting certified as a Nephrology Nurse. Presently, nobody on our unit is certified. I spoke to a nurse who attempted to apply years ago and she said that the exam has a lot of hemodialysis content which makes it quite difficult. Our unit cares for renal patients, a number of them are in HD, but we do not perform the dialysis treatments thus we are unfamiliar with the technical aspect of it. I do have a decent understanding of the concept behind HD and other renal replacement therapies. I checked the NNCC website and I learned that there is actually another certification for Dialysis Nurses. I am just wondering if anyone knows how the hemodialysis portion of the certification exam for Nephro Nurses and Dialysis Nurses differ. Is it really that technical on the Nephro Nurses exam? By technical, I mean, does it include questions about the hemodialysis procedure itself such as machine operation, water treatment, dialysate, chemical treatments, etc? Hoping someone could give me more insight. Thanks fellow RNs! =]
  3. tnx for taking time ILUVIVT. hope ur router's fixed. well today i was able to successfully stick another baby.
  4. tnx a lot ILUVIVT..would really appreciate that..today i had to stick a pediatric admission twice!!!arrggghhh, that poor little boy!! need great help here.
  5. I am an ER nurse, been on this area for 5 months already. Everyday I get to perform IV insertions to my patients. I encounter little problem with adult patients. But pediatric admissions are like nightmares for me. I am seldom able to successfully initiate a patent and good-flowing IV line with them. Many times have I called for the assistance of my seniors and this is quite frustrating for me. It is already hard to keep their limbs steady and it is doubly hard for me to find them a good vein. Yes, it requires a lot of practice and experience, but i don't enjoy the idea of having to "practice" on little kids. Hope you could share some tips and strategies with me regarding this. Thanks a lot.

  8. hi sugarRN..i learned about GSA thru an email they sent to me and their website..its a very attractive offer and a big opportunity as well. i mean, where else could you get a free masteral scholarship in a university?i am willing to work and study at the same time. i may earn less but it doesn't matter. the point is ur already in US soil. what bothers me is that i was informed that after the program you have to go back to phils. and then im not so sure what happens after that. Are the visas they are offering only student visas?or do they also issue working/immigrant visa? ur right, i guess it is better if we do more research about the company and their program. i hope we'll get more feedbacks from other people thru this post..thank you so much also for responding..tc
