Work declining vacation request?

Hi everyone,

I've been currently working at a LTC facility since mid-January 2016. We are quite short-staffed. My boyfriend and I are wanting to go to Cancun in July. I plan on putting in my vacation request this week. My facility has been known to be stingy on accepting time-off requests... and I'm kind of worried. What if I've already paid for my vacation, and they decline my request?

Has anyone have any experience on this? Thanks!

At the employer that I worked for most of my work career, if you wanted specific time off you requested it on Jan.1. That didn't mean that you would get it as it went by seniority and most people worked there 25 plus years. There was no vacation after Dec15 other than 1 day for the holiday you worked. Recently a friend had her vacation approved in Jan,only to be told that she could not now have the weekend days off. She would need to return from her vacation out of the country to work those days. She was able to find 2 people to work those 2 days.

Like most everyone has said, your vacation plans should have been disclosed during the hiring process. Summer is a bad time to request aviation because of families going on vacation and kids being out of school. Many have probably already requested their vacations because of this. Most facilities have length of service requirements prior to taking vacation. Hope it all works out for you.

I've been a nurse for 27 years and I'm the one who decides when I will take a vacation. If you have plans to go then go. If your employer doesn't want to give you permission, I would leave them short one more person, fortunately, the job market for finding new jobs is good. Family first always.

Requesting a vacation in July which is probably the most wanted month to take vacation? As a new nurse who just started in January probably wasnt the best idea to book the trip. Vacation is usually picked by seniority. Most new nurses gets whats leftover usually and rarely get summer months.

Special snowflake, no doubt.

AL, BH?

you can also go to the HR director and state to them that your manager is trying to make you work when you won't even be in the country. Make her look as unreasonable as possible. Eventually she'll realize that she'd wish she just gave you the time off

The problem I see there is that they may soon wish you weren't employed by them and start to find reasons to get rid of you:nailbiting:.

Depends on the state!!! Some are one party, some are two. If you're going to make it a habit of recording conversations, you'd best know the laws!

I think from what I've read is that it's legal to record someone as long as there is at least one person in the room who knows that a recording is happening. JMHO :sarcastic:

Right? Account started over a year ago and THIS is his/her first post? And what a winner!!
