5.5 wk Anatomy

Hey guys,

I'm going to *have* to take a 5.5 week human anatomy course this summer. :o I've only ever taken one 5.5 week course before, and it was Texas Government (actually, my very first course too!). I'm kinda nervous/scared, although I know I can do it if I REALLY work hard!! So, the ideas I've gathered from here so far (this place is awesome) are to tape the lectures, study all the time, make up little jingles to remember things, get flash cards, study those websites listed above, and a few other things. Does anyone else have any other ideas? And, has anyone here taken Anatomy in a 5.5 week course?? ANY support/help would be much appreciated!!! I have no clue who the prof will be, because they haven't chosen him/her yet. Could be a really nasty one, or a real nice one!! Who knows...

Thanks a lot!

Adela

I'm using the Dummies Guide to Anatomy & Physiology for my current 16 week semester of AP1. It helps me understand the entire picture of the subject matter, and then I use my textbook to study the details. I'm planning on using it for my AP2 summer course as well. It was a really good investment for me. :)

Aggghhh! I took A&P I in a summer course last year and to be honest, it was pure hell....but, I did not have a very good teacher and it was online. The teacher had us read the book and his own book so for each chapter there was like 150 pages to read. If you have a good teacher, you will do great and I did find that constantly going over any quizzes that I could find helped me tremendously and using your time wisely. Try not to think that you can do it tomorrow, because deadlines will come at a tremendously fast pace. I think that if you are disciplined enough to do your work and study, you are going to do great.....p.s. I ended with a B (can't complain too much) LOL. Good luck

I took A&P 2 in a 5-week summer course and made an A.

It all depends on your committment...it will take HOURS of study time each day!!!

Good luck, stay focused and determined! :balloons:

Yeah, all the courses I've taken before (5 classes) have been online, so this will actually be my first in-class class. I'm not quite sure what they're like... :) I will be praying HARD to get a good prof!!! :) Great job though in getting a b with that prof!! I'm impressed. I'm a 4.0 student so far, and I am REALLY REALLY wanting to keep it that way as long as possible, at least through my bio classes! But, I'd be happy with a b too.

Take pictures of everything in lab!! These pictures can be used as study aids when not in the lab.

Also, use open lab times! (if offered)

Find pics & quizzes online, and my pics & quizzes are online at NursingJourney.com, maybe some of them can help you as well.

Again, good luck!

Definitely register for a good professor, go to ratemyprofessor.com if you haven't already. Since the grades are so important in these classes I wouldn't take a chance with someone I didn't know about. 5.5 weeks, do the days have more than 24 hours during that time?????? :lol2: You will be busy day and night with that class, good luck!

I CAN'T!!! :sniff: I have to take it in the last half of the summer... and the only class they have is labeled "staff." So... they haven't chosen the prof yet. I'm hoping for the best, even though the odds are against me.

You poor thing, I hope your teacher will be alright, good luck!

If you get the book ahead of time start reading and paying attention to all the pictures. You could also answer the questions at the end of the chapter now just to get the info into your head. Then if they were assigned you would already have them, if not assigned, they would at least help you with the info! Goodluck!

I previously took an A&P class in the summer (it doesn't count towards my nursing program though) and am starting an 8 week A&P1 class next week. It is very doable, just commit to it.

My anatomy class was 8 weeks long and I had a REALLY AWFUL instructor. He's no longer teaching. He told us that he would test on anything in the textbook or what he lectured on...boy that narrows it down!

You can do it! I would try to practice on models that you will be tested on. Sounds silly, but my instructor taught off slides in the classroom and tested on ones from the internet.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot for all the advice everyone!!! I've ordered my anatomy flash cards and am going to start memorizing early. Also got an anatomy coloring book. I heard that those were good too...

And, I looked up all of the biology professors at my college on pickaprof, and was encouraged to see that most of them are pretty good profs. Yayy!! Hope I get a good one.

I have a question though... where does medical terminology fit into all of the biology classes?? Does it just start in anatomy and then continue through the rest? Because... I've seen a lot of "Medical Terminology" books, but there's not a designated class for it. I have some CD's for it, so I may start doing that too.

Thanks again!

Adela
