ok so i am in southern california and right now it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get into an ADN program unless you have like a 4.0 right?
well some schools also look at retaking classes/withdrawals and they will negatively affect you.
well see i have a withdrawal but it was more of a mistake then a withdrawal
heres the story:
i had taken the first class of a bio major biology series at JC then i transferred to 4-yr university and have to finish the biology series (2 more classes because i was a bio major at a quarter system college) well they told me that i had to take the first of the biology series, well i thought i already started the first of the series at the JC, but maybe it transferred differently. So i started class at the university when i look at my transfer progress report and it says i repeated the first class of the biology series.
i was like wow i have been in class (i have already taken, no wonder it was boring and very familiar lol) for 2 weeks past the add/drop period so i knew i would have to take a W.
so now i am worried because i don't want it to reflect negatively to the NS's i want to apply for
anyone have advice or experience in this (or in applying to a so cal ADN schools
much appreciated!!

Withdrawals don't count against you. Don't worry about it.
i believe PCC (pasadena city college) explicitly says in their RN brochure that W's DO count against you.
if PCC is your option then tough luck.....I know alot of CCs that don't look at your withdrawals. If you fail a pre-req and repeat it then you get minuses points. If this class isn't a pre-req I don't see why they would even look at it.

If you're talking about prerequisites, withdraws DO count. Every program I know of makes it clear that they look at "W"s, and that is used in evaluating applicants.

In my school you can only have 3 withdraws. If you have more than that you cannot enter any nursing program. Since you have only one, I believe it won't affect you...Good luck :)

Actually, it can look really bad to have withdrawls and a lot of programs will not let you in with more than 2 BUT.....the withdrawls in question are usually just for the science pre-reqs. So unless your bio is a pre-req you should be ok. Double check with your school, but any information i've seen regarding withdrawls is strictly for the science pre-reqs.

Depends upon the school. Some do not distinguish between a good reason and a bad reason, a W is negative. There are other schools that have varying degrees of how a W is counted or not counted in the admissions process.

here in northern Cali, withdrawal is counted as a repeat by some schools. it depends with the program.
^ what norcal schools count against withdrawals? Alot of the CSUs I applied to (which were primary northern CA) didn't look at W's. maybe if we are taking about CCs then that might be a different story.
We are talking about "W"s in prereq's, right? I live in the Bay Area and I don't know of any school that doesn't look at withdraws in the prereq's.

Talk to your advisor, maybe there is a way to avoid the W or retake on your record due to the misinformation that it was not the same class and that you had to take it.
It would help if you discussed the part about thinking you had "already started the first of the series at the JC, but maybe it transferred differently" with the advisor and didn't just think so to yourself. Even better if you got it in writing, but worth asking either way, especially since it could make a real difference for you.
And don't let it wait, the sooner you talk to them, the better.
Edit to add: and be very respectful when asking for this help... do the whole dress conservatively, professional manners thing too.
