Maybe try making a list of all the departments with their floor numbers and write it over and over (and over and over)? That technique helps me when I have a lot to memorize. Or do flash cards with department on one side, floor number on the other. You could always carry them in your pocket until you get them memorized too. :)

See if you can download a floor map off your hospital website and then take that and pencil in where everything is keep it in your pocket. If the hospital web doesn't have a map. Go to the concierge at the main entrance and ask for a floor map:up:

I always make a mental map... and just walk around as much as I can... I learn by just walking and remembering. You'll remember it after you're there for awhile.

After getting lost a few times it will start to come together. :)

i agree with the others, get a map to help. the first week on your days off and before and/or after your shifts go on a scavenger hunt and locate all the areas you must know for your job (find shortcuts to get from point a to point b if you have a little more time). later return to find all the areas you need to know as an employee of the facility. gl!

Been there, done that! Go walk around and get lost! That's what I did. Do you have some sort of map of the hospital?? After about 2-3 weeks you will be a pro!!

See if you can make a few laminated cards (maybe each side of one = one floor w/departments?) and hole punch them and clip them onto your nametag. I have done similar for frequently used phone numbers, door codes, etc. Good luck!
