Sep 7, 201015 yr Who would you see first?1. Patient really needs to go to the toilet/bathroom2. Verbally abusing relative and patient
Sep 7, 201015 yr Experts If I have someone to delegate to, I'll have them assist the patient with the toileting while I go deal with the verbal abuse. If I'm on my own, then I'll go assist the patient to the bathroom first. That patient is in more immediate physical discomfort and should be tended to ASAP. As others have mentioned, the last thing I'd want is for the patient to try to go to the toilet unaided and risk a fall. Then I'd deal with the verbally abusive family...which would probably end up with me throwing them out of the room and possibly banning future visitation because they are disturbing both the patient and the environment.
Sep 7, 201015 yr I'd delegate the pt with toileting needs to a tech, while I went and found a security guard to delegate the abusive patient and family to.Then, I'd delegate the charting to myself.
Sep 7, 201015 yr You know it's sort of like the seagulls at the beach - if you feed one they all come flying back......but if you don't they attack you because everyone else has been feeding them. That's when I pull out the BB gun.
Sep 8, 201015 yr You can delegate the pt that needs to go to the bathroom to a nurse's aide to assist. Then you can go see the verbally abusive situation and try to calm things down there. That is not part of the question... so, who would you see first?
Sep 8, 201015 yr I'm thinking I'd see the abusive person first, because they came to the nursing station to yell at us. Since the person needing to pee is in their room, and I don't have x-ray vision, I wouldn't see them until I got to their room.
Sep 8, 201015 yr As long we keep answering homework question. The OP's will keep posting. So who are the ones not thinking?
Sep 8, 201015 yr sometimes you don't have someone to delegate to....I entirely agree. However if this IS a test question, then in the "perfect world" you always have enough equipment, nursing assistants, etc.
