Which hospital?

I'm looking for an RN ICU position in CT. Which hospitals do you recommend I look at? I live in Manchester CT but am new to the area. What's UCONN like? Does anyone know Manchester Memorial? What about St Francis? It would be nice to get some opinions frpm people that know these hospitals.

I am in the Hartford area and work at Bristol Hospital. New Britain General has a lovely relatively new ICU. Manchester is a very progressive place. They have a new birthing center. You are very near to Manchester. U.Conn has great state benefits. I only know about their NICU and labor areas, as that is my specialty and we work closely with them. St. francis is fine but much bigger, as is Hartford Hospital.

Thanks Betsy, I really appreciate the input. I'm interested to hear that Manchester is progressive. In what way are they progressive, do you know? Do you know what the ICU might be like there?

Hi- I am new to the site. I am a nurse in Oregon and will be moving to Vernon area in August. I am really interested to get all the dirt on the Hartford area hospitals. I read your post on Manchester----I heard it wasn't that good, but only from one person. If you don't mind, I saw your link and would like to email you for some questions!

I am also curious about the salaries in CT. I have 7 yrs experience in Oncology and Med/Surg. In Oregon I am making 27/hr-not including a 12.5% night shift diff. So I feel pretty lucky. Any insights would be great!

I am looking to work in the States. I see you were talking about oregon..where in oregon and can you suggest a good place...do you know anything about Portland Oregon hospitals. Also, the salary you listed seems to be higher than most areas. Is the cost of living high there?

Hi. I live in Connecticut. I am a LPN but I work at a hospital in the ER. I work at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. It is 130 bed hospital, built in 1998. It is state of the art. I will be applying for an Emergency full time position in Jun/Jul next year. I was thinkng of the yale group. Anybody work for them or have any suggesstions on if it if a good place to work? I know they have it split up in peds, adult Level one, and a smaller, community sized er. Just wondering how the job satisfaction is and how things are run. I am an ER nurse for 3 years now, med surg 2 years before that. Also coming out of the military with a lot of leadership experience. Thanks!

Hi! I am moving to CT in May, and plan on working in or near the New Haven area. I have an interview set up in March for the Yale-New Haven hospital. I am interested in possibly working in Oncology or maybe in Transplant, but for right now, I am open to just about any unit. Does anyone out there know anything about this hospital, or have an experience to share? I'm still considering some other local hospitals to interview at, so any info about area hospitals would be great!

Not sure if you are still looking or have already decided to go to Yale. I am a new graduate started at Bridgeport Hospital. Yale is a HUGE hospital with alot of students and hustle and bustle. That said, Connecticut has several wonderful hospitals for experienced nurses. Hartford Hospital and Middlesex Hospital are Magnet Hospitals and Griffin Hospital is a Plaintree Model. The pay would vary based on your experience and the unit you want to work in. In general, ICU's and ER's pay about 4 dollars more an hour and Float Pools offer about 5 dollars more an hour. Depending on where you will be living in Connecticut, you will find good and bad commutes.

Hey Carianne! Thank you so much for the reply! I wasn't sure if there were any CT nurses out there willing to give advice! :) I am graduating from school with my RN, BSN in May. Right after graduation I am headed your way. My husband and I are looking for apartments in the New Haven area, so I was hoping to find a hospital in that area. I will be a new graduate nurse starting there, so I'm looking for a good learning experience...without too much of the fire (if that's possible)! :chuckle What hospitals in the vacinity of New Haven would you suggest? My husband's program is at Bridgeport, but I haven't heard much about the hospital. Would you suggest it? I also have heard that St. Rapheal's hospital is pretty nice. Any advice/warning would be great!!!!

Well I live in NY and I have an interview at Yale tomorrow. Would love to hear what i might expect from that experience. Its for a medical floor. The hospital sounds great so far......good pay, benefits, teaching hospital, etc etc.
